(3) The start of something new

I walked into the 12th precinct bright and early.

Well not really bright and early. But early enough.

I was really to go back to work, I was already a new person.

Well...maybe I am a new person.

"Morning Reagan, how you doing?" Sergeant Renzulli said coming up to me.

"Sir." I said standing up tall. "I'm doing very good." I smiled.

"It isn't to early that's your coming back? You didn't need a break?"

"No sir, no."

"Strictly prohibitive orders, from the Police Commissioner. "Officer Reagan is on official leave until further notice".

My heart dropped to the bottom of my chest.

That pit feeling was back once again.

It was something that I didn't like.

I never did and I never will.

"Reagan?" Sergeant said while breaking into my thoughts. "Did you get that?".

"Yes sir, yes."

"Alright. Get back Reagan, cause I need you back on my team."

"Sir, Yes Sir." I mumbled as he walked away.

I turned back around walking out.

It felt like I was taking the shame of walk.

I bet Danny, or Erin or even Jamie doesn't have "Official Leave."

My father did this.

I rolled my eyes as I slipped into my car and put my seat belt on.

I don't understand this.

I drove to my dad's office.

Should I go in and talk? Or wait until I go home?

I'll just wait until later.

I drove back to Grandpas and dad's house.

I mean why not I better see what Grandpas up to since I have nothing better to do, then sit around all day.

I walked inside, and straight into the kitchen where Graps would be.

Why?

Because he's cooking dinner for later like always.

"Good my precious Grandchild is here. Katelyn would you like to help cook?"

"Sure granps" I smiled and placed my bag down.

I started to peel and cut the potatoes as I was supposed to.

"Soo..." I said as I cut the potatoes. 

"What's on your mind?"

"Did you know?" I said looking at him, "Did you know?!" I said on the verge of crying.

"Did I know what?" He said worried.

I thought for a minute, I can't tell anymore that Joe was working for the Blue Templar's.

It's my fault he died, I didn't stop him.

He promised me that he would be safe, and he wasn't!

"Katelyn." He placed down the knife. "Did I know what?" He repeated.

"Did you know dad took me out of work?"

"What? No no. I didn't."

I believed Granps. I really do.

"Alright. Okay."

I wiped my tears and went back to cooking.

Like nothing happened.

"Bless us O lord, and these thy gifts, Which we are about to receive, from thy bounty, Through Christ, Our Lord." Dad said.

"Amen." We all said.

Food started getting passed around. People started asking for this and that.

The only food I took was chicken and Mashed Potatoes, Someone Green Beans too.

"How was everyone's day?" Dad asked.

Everyone looked at each other and shrugged.

I spoke up first.

"Pretty good, considering I spent it with Granps all day, cooking and playing card games. Which I don't mind at all Granps." I smiled towards him getting one in return.

"What? Your weren't working?!" Danny asked.

"I would be working but dad took me out." I said looking at him.

"This isn't the right place or the right time, Katelyn." He said placing down his fork.

"Well I guess it never is right?! Did you even take Erin out of work?! How about Danny or Jamie?! Huh!" I said yelling.

"Stop your yelling right now."

"I appreciate your care for me but I'm not a little kid anymore."

"Your acting like one."

"Yeah yeah. Whatever." I stood up putting my coat on.

"Sit down right now young lady." Dad said.

I just ignored him and walked out,

"Way to go dad." Danny said as I walked out.

I was about to get in the car when this feeling stoped me.

Was that right or me too do? Or was it wrong of me too do?

I was right? Right. I think so.

I got in and car and drove to my apartment.

I just need to be alone.

Alone for now, maybe ever.
