Saihara's POV:
A blinding light obscures my view. Even when I closed my eyes, it burned into my retinas, seeming to sting a bit.

Is this... the end?

The words kept on repeating as I bit my lip. I feel Ouma's arms squeezing around my neck. I squeeze his hand in return.

"It'll be okay."

It'll be okay. Those words comforted me, and a small smile appears on my face. We're leaving. We're getting out of this place. I'll finally be able to go home. No more killing game, or anything like that.

No more death.

No more suffering.

No more pain.

I should be happy, right? So then...

...why aren't I?

Getting out of here seemed unreal. It was something that was only in my dreams. No matter how loud I cried out, I would still be stuck. Still stuck in the killing game. There's nothing I could do. Killing someone would only result in my own death, and I would never know if I would be killed myself or not. It was like an endless circle. Getting killed, or not, with the other choice of being the blackened myself. I may have been smart enough to not take the bait, but I'm not street smart like some people are. I can't defend myself in a fight. How was I supposed to believe that I could get out? Besides, even if I did try to stop it, it only resulted in another killing. Just like Kaede.

And slowly... that alternate ending seems to disappear.

Even if I cried out, "Why?!" I couldn't change anything.

No reaction.

No emotion,

Nothing.

Slowly, I open my eyes, and stare. Some rubble lays on the ground, but in the distance, I can make out a city.

"It... It worked?" I ask in surprise. Hearing my voice out loud gave a pounding feeling in my chest. There's no boundaries here- no cage to keep us in. We have freedom to do what we want here, and our lives aren't at risk anymore.

"Y-Yeah! I'm fine," Kiibo said, struggling to get up. He was the one we all needed to thank. He almost risked his life trying to save us. And even though he's a robot, something about him... seems human.

"Hey, Kiibo, your antenna thing on your head fell off," Ouma says. "Oh well! Sucks for you, I guess..."

"M-My antenna?!" Kiibo's exclaims. He mutters something in annoyance, and then something about his inner voice.

"This is it. We're leaving..." Himiko trails off.

"Hey, guys, we shouldn't forget each other. Let's keep in touch," Kaito points out.

"That's a good idea."

"I still can't believe we got out..." I mutter.

"Haha... Well, you just have to believe, Shuichi! The impossible is possible, all you gotta do is make it so!"

"Y-Yeah, that's right..."
