Chapter 2

A Familiar Face

The remnants of pizza, sweets and muffins were spread out across the carpet, glasses of now-flat coke nearby. Cassie’s hair was swirling across the pillow as her body slowly rose with each breath she took. I looked around to find that Sam and Elle had already woken up since their sleeping bags were empty. Hearing muffled voices in the kitchen also proved my theory. I slowly got up, fixed my hair and made my way to the kitchen. Sam had his face stuffed with pancakes and Elle was facing the other way, her back towards me. She stood in front of a small mirror, presumably putting on some make up.

“Well it’s about time!” Sam said to me, pieces of pancake falling from his mouth.

“That’s very attractive Sam,” I told him back, “Hey Elle.”

“Hey,” she said, her back still towards me. I went towards her and put my hand on her shoulder.

“You could look at me, you know,” I laughed as I turned her around and almost fell backwards with shock.

“Oh my god! You should’ve seen your face!” Sam laughed.

“What the hell are you doing? Do you know how freaky you look right now?!” I asked her.

“That’s the whole point, silly! We’re going to scare Cassie,” she said, putting on some more white powder all over her face. Elle is already pale as it is!

“Isn’t that a bit mean? You know how scared Cassie is of things like this.”

“We planned on doing it to the last person to wake up, so therefore, Cassie. Oh come on Ash, it’ll be funny!”

“Fine but if she gets a heart attack, I won’t help out with the legal issues.” Elle laughed and put on a dark, black wig and a white dress with some splatters all over it which I assumed was ketchup. We suddenly heard movement from the living room.

“Guys?” Cassie asked. Sam’s eyes grew wide. He switched on the video camera at the corner of the wall to clearly record the act.

“Seriously? Guys this isn’t funny!” He placed his hand on his mouth to keep himself from laughing. Elle went out and back in from the back door. She slowly emerged from it made low noises to get Cassie’s attention. As Cass turned around, her face displayed sheer and utter horror. She moved backwards, not taking her eyes off Elle and turned to run away, though she ended up tripping over a sleeping bag. Sam’s face was contorted. He looked like he was about to burst with laughter and in fact, that’s what he did. He laughed so much that he fell over and into the sites of a terrified Cassie. Her eyes shone with realization.

“Sam! I’m gonna kill you!!” She screamed as she got up. Sam’s face immediately fell as he ran out of the house, screaming like a little girl. I went to the living room, laughing as I switched off the video camera.

“You were right. That was hilarious,” I told Elle, still giggling.  She laughed too till we finally calmed down and stopped. I looked towards her and suddenly felt a little uneasy.

“Seriously Elle, please change now.”

“I’m so dressing up like this for Halloween,” she said as she went to the bathroom, removing her wig.

--A few hours later—

Too cheer Cassie up and to help Sam forget the massive slap Cassie gave him, we decided to go get some ice-cream at the nearest café. Sam and Cass were still glaring daggers at each other while Elle just smirked at them. I was quite surprised at the fact that Cassie only got mad at Sam. If anything, I’d be mad at Elle who was the actual person who scared her but anyways. I took this silent, peaceful moment, to take in the gorgeous town. It seemed to be stuck in this autumn season, red and orange leafed trees were found everywhere and gave that homely feel. Just seeing that, memories of my passed life here just flooded my mind. Even though I had only spent three years away, it felt as if it had been decades. I was looking around until I was once again, sucked out of my thoughts but this time, it was because of a familiar face.

“Sean!” I exclaimed, as I ran into his arms. It took him a while to figure out who I was. I must have changed in the last three years. He grabbed me by the waist and spun me around a bit. He set me down and we just couldn’t wipe the grin from on our faces. He looked at me with longing eyes as his eyes locked with mine. He leaned down slowly, pressing his soft lips on my own. I closed my eyes as shivers ran down my spine and kissed him back, running my hands through his short thick hair. I took in his new appearance. He definitely changed too. He was taller and the muscles in his arms worked as he moved around. His toned abs in his six-pack flexed as he stood and stretched. I felt my jaw drop. His hair sprawled over his head and forehead, his dark brown eyes closed as he released the tension from his muscles.

“Alright you two, break it up,” A smirking guy said as he held out his hand for me to shake. I hadn’t even realized he came with a group of his friends! I blushed and shook his hand. “I’m Jason.”

“Marking your territory?” Another guy with blonde hair told him. Sean just rolled his eyes and playfully shoved him.

“Hate to break the love fest but Brendon wants us back in 5 minutes. You know Brendon…the Alpha!” Jason said.

“Right…I’ll come over soon or we can go out later. Okay Ashley?”

“Yeah, that’d be awesome,” I replied, “Beware the Brendon!” I yelled after they’d started walking away. Sean turned his face, smiled and continued on.
