"Hey! Oh my god!" I say opening my front door

"Hey! Oh my god!" I say opening my front door. Lyla crashes into my arms with happiness.

"Who won ten grand? Who won Chew with Schools?" Lyla asks with wide eyes, breaking into a fit of laughter- "I did!"

Anna walks in from behind Lyla cradling a box of pizza in her arms. "Let's get girls night started! I'm sooo hungry."

"Your always hungry." I laugh.

The door opens wider and Lena Case (Lyla's girlfriend) walks in, bouncing on her tippy toes. She's practically bursting with excitement 24/7.

"Heyy!" She says happily-pulling me into a hug, her huge curly hair shielding my view. Lyla and Lena had only started dating a few weeks ago- and already it seemed as if  had known her for years.

The door opens yet again, this time welcoming Amara Nader- a friend we met through Lena. She waves her hand shyly as she clutches onto a plate of Ghraybeh.

"Ohh, they smell so good." I practically moan- breathing in the cookies aroma. We all file into my living room, where Anna dramatically falls into my sofa, Lyla and Lena lay out a blanket on the floor, and Amara and I stretch out against the coach. Amara pulls off her nude Hijab as she pulls a bowl of popcorn in her direction.

"Mine." She giggles, claiming it for herself.

I grab my remote and hear the gentle sound of my TV turning on. Today we were going to officially watch season three of Chew with Schools, aka watch Lyla, Anna, and I cook frantically and make a fool of ourselves on television.

I grab a slice of oily pizza, and start munching it as Chew with Schools theme song plays, and David introduces the judges.

"Oh my god!" Anna says, her face distorting into a disgusted facial expression. "Thats me! I looked so bad!"

I chuck a pillow at her head. "Stop. You looked perfect."

She cringes and sighs dramatically.

We watch the scenes unfold, and each student gets introduced. I see Pippa on the TV screen as the producers interview me. I pull Pippa onto the sofa gleefully.

"Look at you!" I gush as Pippa wags her tail happily. "You're famous!"

The first episode doesn't end to terribly, and I flush with pride as Davan declares Will and I Challenge One's champions.

My throat tightens as I watch Will's face on screen, he was smiling so happily. But he was in pain- just doing a really good job of masking it.

Anna reaches over and gives my hand a squeeze. She always knows. Its almost as if she can read my mind.

The producers edit Anna's fight scene out (true to their word) but Anna huffs annoyed. "I wanted to leave some kind of mark!"

"Oh trust me- you did."

The second episode goes on without a hitch, and again I see Will and I declared champions for challenge two. My stomach clenches at the thought of the next episode.

"We don't have to watch it." Lyla says concerned, watching my face quizzically.

I gulps down my nerves, "It's fine."

But it's not fine. Panic bursts into flames in my chest as I watch a moment I remember all to well play out in front off me. The thing is- I've replayed this moment over in my head thousands of times since it's happened. The paling of Will's face, the way his eyes fluttered shut. But actually seeing it- really seeing it is too much.

I realize I can't breathe, my hands are shaking, I'm sweating profusely. Black dots dance in my eyes, and my tongue is thick against my throat- choking me.

"Turn it off." Anna says harshly. "Turn it off!" Lena gets to the remote first, and relief immediately engulfs my body- calming down my shaking nerves. I lean back against the sofa with a soft groan.

"Sorry."

My friends watch me carefully, brown, blue, and green eyes staring at me almost quizzically.

"It's okay Cira." Lyla says. "We understand."

"How's Will doing?" Amara asks, gently placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Better, I think." I breathe. "He was admitted two weeks ago in Rehab, so."

Lena nods comfortingly. "It'll be okay. He- will be okay."

I want to believe them, I really do. But they didn't see how hopeless Will appeared, how shattered.

I grab the remote, hesitating slightly before turning on the last episode, the champions.

I watch Lyla's determined face- and Alecco, (who literally looks like a greek god- ironic since he's greek) battle it out against their opposing team.

Even though I know Lyla's team will win, I still panic at the right moments, and cheer when things get exciting.

When Lyla's declared winner, we all burst out of our seats, flowering Lyla with hugs and cheers- Lena pulling her into a deep kiss.

"That's my girlfriends." Lena murmurs softly against Lyla's lips.

No correction- That's my best friend first.

I pull her into a hug, laughing joyously- for the first time in what feels like forever.

Friends are kinda the best remedy to anything really- if they love you enough.
