My papa pulls up to our school, and I bite my lip hesitantly

My papa pulls up to our school, and I bite my lip hesitantly. This is it. The semifinals. Will and I had gotten this far already- we couldn't screw things up now. The crazy thing is, even though my stomach feels as if it's filled with butterflies, I'm actually really hopeful.

I pull on my maroon colored dress nervously. I paired it with a jean jacket and some converses. It was the semi-finals. I wanted to look more- I don't know. Presentable.

"Good luck." My Mama says looking back at me. "I have my fingers crossed." She crosses her neatly manicured nails with a cheerful expression, and I can't but burst into soft laughter.

"I love you, mama."

She pulls me into a hug, and my papa kisses me on the top of my head.

I exit my car hesitantly, but luckily Will appears suddenly- waving goodbye to his mom, dad, and little sister Becca.

"Ready?" I ask nervously.

He pulls me into a hug as if in response.

Well, actually this is probably the best response I've ever received.

...

We're sitting in the auditorium when a middle-aged man gently taps me on the shoulder.

"I have to mike you." He says with a kind expression. I'm used to it by now, but it is kind of awkward enduring someone stuffing a small object down than through your shirt. While I'm trying not to move I notice his name is quite ironically- Mike. I stifle my laughter.

I sip on a cold bottle of water as we wait, I can't help but notice how quiet Will is.

"You okay?" I ask Will concerned.

"Mhmm." He says with no further explanation.

I raise an eyebrow.

"Nervous."

I grab hold of his shaking hand.

"Damn," I whisper. "Will your hands are ice cold."

"I'm a vampire. No big deal." He replies. It was obviously supposed to be a joke but there's no humor in his voice.

"I don't know poor circulation, I guess." He says after a moment of silence. He avoids my gaze.

I don't push it.

"Okay- Kids." A producer says, swinging the auditorium doors open. "Time to enter your classroom, good luck."

Lyla quickly approaches me and wraps me in a comforting hug. "Love you bestie." She whispers.

"Good luck," I say back as we separate.

Here goes nothing.
