Snow stays upon the ground this month
When most every year the grass leads
And begins our brief spring when once
The soil is turned and sewn with seeds
Of hearty northern mix; cold comes early
In these parts and harvest can be a hurry.

So snow be gone, please melt away,
Let spring begin its normal reign,
Let sun warmed air encourage children's play —
Flakes of snow please turn soon to rain
That we may sit beneath fall skies to testify,
This summer's plenty came by and by.
