You and I
I dive into the abyss chasing stars
While you keep me rooted in the dirt
Reminding me failure comes first
Before I venture out too far
Yet you keep me after I learned the verse
Ensuring I'd never become a star
But we can not split the blame
For you and I are the same
I perceive life in black and white
While you dream in luscious hues
It could never change my views
Of the world that never does me right
With every sense a geyser spews
Onto a broken canvas no longer white
But we can not split the blame
For you and I are the same
You accept the shell that we've been given
While I lash out and try to break
The image you have that is "fake"
Since I don't see what's no longer hidden
For I am asleep while you are awake
Yet a second thought is never given
But we can not split the blame
For you and I are the same
You yearn for the warmth of love
While I drown in a downpour of tears
For love is what fuels my fears
Of never flying like a dove
That knows the end is near
As the fire dies fragile ashes remind me of our love
But we can not split the blame
For you and I are the same
