04 : Man Up, McCann

Start from the beginning

"It's alright, we're nearly at the truck stop. We'll get something to eat and then go to Lockhart, I think I'll be able to land a place for all of us to stay until I finish this mission, and we'll all be safe." Jason said. "Oh, and I've got a surprise for you as well." He beamed, looking suddenly excited.

"Oh god," I rolled my eyes playfully. "What kind of surprise?"

"The kind of surprise where you don't find out what it is until you get it."

I folded my arms and raised my eyebrows. "Someone's clever."

"Gotta be me, baby." He winked.

"Cocky." I rolled my eyes, trying to hold back a smile.

"That's why you like me."

"You're alright I guess," I shrugged. "Like is a bit of an overstatement though."

Jason gasped dramatically. "I'm wounded."

"Man up, McCann."

He chuckled and bit his lower lip, before glancing over at me in admiration. "I love you, Y/n."

I was about to say it back, but the words caught in my throat, and by the time I had plucked up the courage to say those three words, the moment had already passed.

I mentally kicked myself.

-----------------

Alex and Alara had made it to the truck stop before us, everyone else was still on there way...
I hoped.

"Y/n!" Alara squealed when she saw me, she flung her arms around my neck and hugged me tightly. When she pulled away, she observed the way I was dressed and how physically and mentally drained I was. "Well, you look like hell."

I felt the corners of my lips tug up. "Thanks."

"Great timing," Jason wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "She was practically tortured in that mental hospital, let's have a little sensitivity." He said, but he couldn't hide his own smile. He made me feel wanted.
I liked that.

Alara seemed distant.
She was still stunning in ways that made the most beautiful celebrities want to pay billions of dollars on plastic surgery to try and keep up with her, but I was aware that Alara was mourning the death of Kaine, which somehow didn't affect her appearance, but made her look different.

Alex stood up from his chair and pulled me into a light and quick hug.
"It's good to have you back, Jason was going insane without you." He chuckled as he pulled back.

I looked up at Jason. "The feelings were mutual." I said with a smile.

Me, Jason, Alex and Alara ordered food and sat inside the truck stop for about twenty minutes before Jake and Matt showed up. They each greeted me and joined us at the table.

"Dude," Matt punched Jason's arm and looked panicked.

Jason scrunched up his face and rubbed his arm, the punch clearly didn't hurt him, but he was trying to make a point. "What is wrong with you?"

"You've fucked up your car. I saw it as we came in here. What kind of police chase did you go on?"
Matts love for cars got the better of him sometimes.
