Prologue
I walk inside my house, making my way towards my living room only to see that my mom was sitting on the couch crying, I ran to her worried.
What if he was let out early?
"Mom what's wrong?" I ask, putting my hands around her sobbing body.
She gives me a piece of paper with one of her shaky hands, I take it from her.
Dear Mom and Hazel,
By the time you find this letter I would have already left. I'm leaving cause I failed to protect you both from him. I realized that I was harming you every time he came by, and he came by so often. Mom, you would try to stop him but you couldn't, you just couldn't. Every time I saw him hit you, I broke inside because I knew he was only hurting you because of me; I don't know why he couldn't just leave us alone, why he couldn't just leave you two alone. And then when he started hitting Hazel, my little princess, I knew I could no longer take it. I could not stand to see that poor excuse of a father I had, hit his 11 year old daughter. I was hurting you guys by staying there. Mom, when I found out that Keith, the husband you claimed you loved, was in jail, I thought this was the chance to leave you since he was gone. I'm truly sorry for everything I've made you two go through. I will always be thinking about you two...143
