She looked up from her spot on the bed, standing up. “Don’t you dare ‘dude’ me! How comes you told Rahama about the little internship, but not me?”

I groaned. “I was going to tell you today.”

“Really? Am I the last one in our group to find out about this?”

“No. Loads of others don’t know.”

“Really? Like who?”

“Like Ols, and you didn’t… And Deren! And Harry…”

“You haven’t told Harry?” She laughed. “Oh, you’re fucked, mate.”

“Don’t remind me. I didn’t want to add stress to his life.”

“So you decided to keep a secret from him? And me?”

“You told Autumn!” I accused.

“She heard me talking to myself! I talk to myself often, I’m a crazy bitch and you know it!”

I smiled, in spite of myself. “I’m sorry for not telling you. I didn’t mean it. How’d you find out?”

She raised an eyebrow. “You think Rahama is good at keeping secrets?”

I laughed. Rahama was a big softie; a very emotional one, so it wasn’t a surprise that she had told her girlfriend.

“Look, I’ll tell Harry as soon as his exam finishes.”

“You’d better. I hear Autumn is a snitch.

I grimaced, not wanting to think about what he’d do if he found out about this from someone else.

“You’re thinking, that’s not good. Get your arse over here and help me pack.”

*~*

“Hi.”

“Hello.”

Harry glanced at me, from his position on the bed. I smiled at him, closing the door as I stepped into his room. Okay, Brenna. You can do this. Just tell him.

“How’d the exam go?” I asked.

“Good, good. I hope.”

He sounded weird. Was this code for ‘I fucked up’?

“That’s good, I guess.”

“Yeah. Oh, guess what?”

“Ooh, gossip?”

He nodded. “You’ve probably heard this already.”

“I have?” I frowned.

“Yeah.” I racked my brains for any gossip I knew about. There was none.

“Okay, so where did you hear this gossip?”

“Was just about to say that. It was after the exam that I heard something fun today.”

“Like what?” I asked, sitting next to him. He placed an arm on my shoulder, and I snuggled up to him. Gossip and cuddles; my favourite things.

“It was about you, actually.”

“Really?” I froze, wondering what he knew. If it was about the internship, then he didn’t seem so angry. Did he? But he had no reason to be angry.

“What’s this about an internship?” He asked, as if reading my thoughts.

“Oh.” I swallowed, and he closed his eyes, looking immensely disappointed.

“Yeah, oh.”

“You angry?” I asked slowly, watching him work his jaw.

“I’m angry.”

“You have no reason to be angry.”

“I’m not angry because you got the internship.”

“Then what are you angry about?” I frowned, confused.

“I’m angry because you didn’t tell me. I had to hear about it from other people. Which sucks.”

“I know, and I’m sorry,” I said, the urge to defend myself taking over me. “But that really isn’t fair. You had your exam and you were already stressed out about that, so I didn’t want to stress you out even more. Come on, who does that?”

“But exams can be retaken. When were you planning on telling me?”

“I was going to do that now, actually,” I said defensively.

He breathed out slowly, and I stared at him. This was not the reaction I was hoping for. “Do you not want me to do it?”

“Please, even if I told you not to do it, you’d still do it.”

“Obviously,” I scoffed, trying to make a joke out of the situation, which was treading into dangerous territory. Territory that I did not feel like entering.

“Well, I guess I’ll have to come visit.”

“Visit where?”

He ignored me, carrying on with whatever he’d been saying. “And move things into wherever you’re staying.”

“What?”

He looked at me, his green eyes sparkling. “Well, you aren’t going to stay here, are you?”

“No?”

“So, you’ll probably get a flat or something, and I’ll come and visit and stay over whenever I can.”

I grinned. “I like the sound of that. So, you aren’t mad?”

“No. Why would I be? I was the one telling you to go and pursue your dream, and only a bad boyfriend would be mad. I’m a little angry that you didn’t tell me sooner, but there’s no point in being mad. I don’t want any more arguments, actually.”

I thought about what he had just said. “No more arguments? But there’s so much to argue about.”

He gave me a look, and I laughed. “I’m just kidding!”

“I know. Congratulations on the internship though. I told you you had talent.”

“I don’t need you to tell me,” I joked. He poked me in the ribs and I smiled.

“I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

Everything was going to be alright.
