Summary: Harry and Adeline decide to go play in the snow while you opt to enjoy some alone time inside. When they come back into the smell of hot chocolate they realize that there is no place on Earth they'd rather be.

From Snow to Cocoa

Their boots crunched as they ventured further into the backyard. What was once an expanse of green was now one of white. After a week of false alarms, the meteorologists had finally predicted the weather correctly. Schools were closed, which meant children dressed in colorful coats would being enjoying as much time outside as possible. Even after their noses grew cold and their fingers started to ache—it was worth it. Though, not everyone outside was worthy of being considered young. Bundled along with Adeline was her father.

It hadn't been two minutes before her small voice joined the distant sound of raised voices and shovels scraping the pavement. "I think it's too cold daddy. Maybe we shouldn't have come out." She had pulled her purple scarf over her mouth.

His breath appeared as a frosty cloud when he let out a sigh. "Don't be like mummy now, muffin. She's bein' borin' by stayin' inside," he explained. Though, his missus did have a good reason to back up her decision.

It had been quite some time since she had the house all to herself. That was something she desired more and more as the days rolled past. Even if it wasn't for long, a good twenty minutes was acceptable in her eyes. After all, she had a kid and a husband who sometimes acted like one. All she needed was silence and space to breathe.

Harry took advantage of the opportunities that would gave him a taste of what it felt like to be free and youthful again. There was something about that innocence that his body couldn't help but crave. It was hard for Y/N to decipher whether or not he or Addie was the child of the family. Both of them had quite the energy. Neither would sit still unless something interesting was entertaining them. Y/N grew to love that about the two of them—her two munchkins.

Addie wasn't wrong, though—the temperature had been a rollercoaster ever since earlier that morning. But he couldn't bring himself to care. Not because he was an inconsiderate father, but because he knew she'd forget all about being cold once they started playing. Just like he and his sister forgot when they were younger.

Panicked squeals from his mom and Gemma used to fill the air too. They always made a point to complain about his sinister aiming skills. He threw snowballs in such a way that had melted snow trickling down their backs. Only on occasion would his father be around to join them and team up with Harry. It was the days like that that taught him how to love winter days.

Addie's hazel eyes began to sparkle as she bit her lower lip. Gears were working themselves in her head. The apples of her cheeks then rose as she let out a little laugh. "I'm gonna tell mommy you said she was boring," she threatened.

A look of surprise washed over his face for a split second, before he took action by grabbing her waist.

"What are you—wait, no!" she squealed upon being hoisted over his shoulder. All she could do was watch as the ground became further away from her feet. Gripping onto his coat helped ease her nerves.

He kept a cautious arm around her and took a few strides, making her squirm and attempt to grasp him tighter. "Still gonna tell mummy, are you?" His tone was daring.

"I'm not, I'm not. Just put me down," she whined with weak kicks of her legs. She couldn't help the small giggles from bubbling from her chest. It was a sound Harry would listen to all the time if he could. Just like Y/N's laugh. He was a complete sucker for both of them.

Being the only man in the house meant putting up with everything from puppy faces, to battering eyelashes, and beautiful smiles and laughs that one could only find themselves dreaming of. He loved every moment of it. A piece of him would be missing if there ever came a time when it all went away. It was funny how they were the two women in his life whom he never expected to have. The universe had its way of making things work out for the better.
