Chapter 69 One Step Closer

I hoped out of the car with help from Louis and we walked side by side into the office.

"May I help you?" One women sitting at a desk asked.

It was a really nice lobby with a big fish tank in the center.

But AGAIN WITH THAT WRETCHED SMELL!!!!

I looked at Louis to talk.

He must have forgotten I couldn't speak quite yet.

"Oh yeah." He smiled at me. "We're here for Nikki Northington."

"They're expecting you in room 4." The lady nodded. "Just go on back."

Louis looked at me. "Do you want me to go with you?"

I nodded.

He walked me back to room 4 where a doctor was typing on a computer.

"Nikki!" He smiled. "Hello, I'm Doctor Grantham and I'll be helping you today."

I nodded sharply at him.

"I'm Louis." Louis spoke up. "Her legal guardian."

I gave Louis a confused look, but went along with it.

"Ahhhh Mr. Tomlinson." Dr. Grantham nodded. "Nice to meet you."

Then he looked at me.

"I'm just going to look in your throat to start off."

Then I stretched my mouth open so he could search around inside.

"Hmmmm....." He frowned. "It's not swollen. Let's take an x ray to see if you pulled a small muscle. Happens all the time to teens and kids."

He took an x ray of throat and then smiled.

"It may take a few minutes to examen it." Dr. Grantham informed us. "I'll be right back."

He slipped out of the door and we were alone.

"So....." Louis looked at me.

I shrugged.

"Darn!" Louis shook his head. "I can't wait until you can talk again! I don't like you quiet."

I smiled.

"Plus, regrettably, I miss your sassiness." Louis laughed. "And your comments."

I smirked and shook my head.

Louis talked to me about how much the boys missed me and about how sorry they were for leaving me alone.

Honestly, I didn't care anymore.

I was safe and sound in all of their arms and that's all that mattered.

I expressed how I felt in a series of hand gestures to Louis.

"I'm not quite sure what you said, but I'll take it that you except my apology." Louis blinked.

I smiled with a nod.

"All that matters is that your safe with me and all the boys." louis repeated my thoughts.

I rolled my eyes with a sigh.

I can't wait until I can talk.

At that moment, the door slowly opened and Dr. Grantham came in.

"So how's it look?" Louis asked him.

He looked up slowly from the papers he was holding and swallowed. "Um..."

Louis frowned. "Is everything okay?"

Dr. Grantham bit his lip and looked down at his papers. "Well....."

He hesitated and just stared blankly at the papers.

The his eyes wondered up and over at me.

With a swallow, he slowly outstretched his arm towards me.

I grasped the papers and looked down at them.
