The following weekend, April returned. She wasn't too thrilled about sharing a room with me but I wasn't sure how many 9 year olds would be. They still thought boys had cooties.

Aunt Becky hadn't gotten me s bed yet, so I was sleeping on an air mattress for the time being.

April seemed fairly athletic, she did dance, volleyball, soccer, and basketball. She was also pretty intelligent, already reading at a 9th grade level.

Her friend, whose mom was giving us rides, was also into everything April was. This meant that either Syd was over here or April was over there.

Aunt Becky told the girls that I was playing volleyball which made them giggle but she then suggested we go practice.

I was down to do that. If I didn't make the team, I would be forced to be a cheerleader for the football team and I really didn't want to do that.

So over the next couple of weeks, we practiced non-stop and bonded pretty well, much like I did with my other sisters.

I wasn't invited to any tea parties but it would do.
