Chapter - 55

Location - Peter Island; Villa

Imagine a situation; undesirable as such; where you are having a gala lone time with the Love of your Life, on an isolated Island; having no other known or unknownface around you and suddenly - Your Love gets attacked by noxious creaturesand he/she collapse in your arms; smeared inblood. Verily; theonly thought of such a predicament is enough to make one's hair stand on end and scare the bejesus, living daylights, death and all theshit out and here; Alas! Nandini had livedthrough this nightmare - her getting out of sorts and below the par was absolutely predictable. She had managed to free him from the clutches of pain and those creepy worms but the entire ordeal coupled with the eldritch and nagging 'what-if' bugs had played heavywith her heart and also taken quite a toll on her health. She was highly feverish and had become a bundle of nerves. Her body was shivering with temperature; and her eyes were red; both because of the fever and constant crying; but still she didn't bother to rest and was busy in healing his wounds. And this only realization had driven him bananas and had numbed his entire body; leaving only the solicitous heart intact and disregarding his own fresh wounds; that were also rendered insensitive; he exclaimed, jerking himself off the bedOh Shit! Baby tumhekitna tez buqaar hai!!Not giving a tinker's damn to her poor health like always; she pulled him back and lied, trying hard to hide her frailty from himManik tum pagal hogaye ho? Dard horaha hoga! Chup Chap letey raho. Kuch nahi hua hai mujhe. I am perfectly fine. Bas thodi garmi hai na isi liye. Ignoring whatever she said; he again satupright holding her hand and involuntarily; owing to the burns on her fingers; she hissed and his entire world came crashing down to his feet - the moment he descried the injuries on her delicate fingers. Tears welled up in his eyes and his heart began cursing him for being unable to keep her safe and for letting so much of pain reach her. How always he had kept her wrappedin cotton and wool and had never allowed even an insect to bite her and now seeing her suffer so much because of his negligence; that too during pregnancy - he felt so defeated.Gently; he brought her hands near his lips and said, after kissing her burns softlyI amSo Sorry Baby! Meri wajah se tumhe. Taking back her hands from his; she wiped away his tears and repliedin a feeble but firm toneYou don't need to be sorry Manik! Kuch nahi hua haimujhe. Tum bekaar me pareshan mat ho. You need rest. Just lay down quietly. I will get some food. Uske baad you will have to take the medicines. Dard kam hojaega. Herentire body was burning in fever; she was nowhere close to stability, her fingers were seared and still she was concerned only about him. Forget resting; she wasn't ready to express or even acknowledge her ailment and her this unsympathetic attitude towardsherself angered Manik. Before she could even budge; Manik locked her in his arms, made her lie on the bed and when she protested; he gave her a stern look and rebukedEnough Nandini! Koshish bhi mat karna ab kehne kike you are fine. Tumhe kya lagta hai main andha hoon? Haalat dekhi hai apni? For Godsake; stop being so selfless all the time. Khamosh leti raho aur mujhe treat karne do. Mar nahi jaunga main! She was silently listening to whatever he was saying but his last four words alarmed her and instantly keepingher hand on his mouth; she retorted, raising her voice and breathing heavilyout of horrorShut Up Manik! Kuch bhi boley jarahe ho. Kitni baar kaha hai tumse aisi baatein mat karo.Do you have any idea tumhe wese dekh kar mujhe kaisa feel horahatha? Your each shriek was stabbing my heart innumerable times. Tumhare khoon ki har doosri boond ke saath meri jaan jarahi thi. Kitne burey burey khayal aarahe they mere dil mein aur tum uthkar aisi baatein karrahe ho? You know what? Jo hona haina - honey do. Bukhaar hai na; rehne do. I don't care.Saying so; she turned to the other side and dug her face in the pillow; sobbing hard against it. Thwacking and kicking himself inthe mind for blurting out hurtful words and drowning in the ocean of remorse; he calmed his stupidtemper down andcrooned, curling up to her from behindI am sorryBaby. I shouldn't have said that. Jis tarah tumse mera pain bardash nahi hota; usi tarah main bhi toh tumhe aise nahi dekhsakta. Iss insect bite se mujhe kuch nahi hoga per tumhe aise dekhker main zaroor mar jaonga. Please letme treat you. Both were in painbut cared more for the other; were fighting with each other for each other and were crying on each other's state - Love couldn't be more ideal, flawless and anything beyond. Smoothly; he made her turn about to face him to which she didn't object andthen snuggling into his chest, shemumbled, snifflingI Love You So Much! Please don't say such words again.I can't live without you.Laying her straight on her spine; he tucked the errant strands of her hair behind her ear and replied, after dropping a buss on her forehead and then kissing awayher tearsI Love You Too Baby. You want to see me fine na?She nodded babyishlyand he continued, giving her a peck on lipsThen You have to be a goodbaby. I am perfectly alright. Just closeyour eyes and relax. Main abhi aya. Obliging readily; she shut her bloodshot redswollen orbs and then tucking her in the bed - he grabbed his phone and hastened out of the room to do some high - priority works. Stepping out; first and foremostly he made a phone callto the Island's Manager and being the overprotective himself; demanded the urgent presence of three doctors - a dermatologist, a gynecologist and a physician from the main Island'si.e., Tortola's best and renowned hospital within 20minutes in their Villa. True the clock was ticking the zero hours, the night was in its dead phase, the Main Island was a sea away and getting doctors within 15 minutes was practically beyond the bounds of possibility but nevertheless; theimpossible had nochoice but to bow down before him because things atthe very momentconcerned his Nandini - the words that the world has to facehis wrath even if she sneezes weren't only for the sake of saying - the world actually had to bear his grunt.  Then literally throwingaway the phone and without any further ado; he collected some cold water in a bowl and hastened back to the room. Her fever was growing young and accordingly; her body was getting lethargicand dizziness wastaking over her mind - leaving her in a neither awake nor asleep state. On returning; Manik kept the bowl on the side - table, pulled out one of his cotton t-shirts from his travel bag, tore and folded it into strips, soaked them in water and began placing the wet cloth on her forehead; the basic aid for fever he had knowledge about;after taking her head in his lap. She wasn't unconscious but light in the head and was clearly able to sense his tension and so to give him some relief; she smiledand said, in a hardly audible toneTum Mujhe kehrahe they pareshan nahi honey ke liye aur ab khud horahe ho. Emotionally; he nestled her closer to himself and replied, massaging her stiffened neck and shoulders tenderlyMere kehne ka kuch fayda nahi hua na lekin. Mera baby toh dargaya aur woh bhi itna ke bukhar hi agaya.  Kya karun main batao? I can't see you like this jaan. Saying so; he changed the wet strip and just then the bellrang; indicating the arrival of doctors and informing about the same to her, he laid her on thebed, wore a loose tee and rushed to open the door for them. . . . . . There is nothing to worry at all Mr. Malhotra. Your wife is pregnant and normally women get hypersensitive during this period. As per what you've described; I conclude she has got a bit too much frightened and that had strained her body. Nothing serious. The Fever will hopefully subsidein a day. The general physiciannotified Manik; after thoroughlychecking up Nandini; and then looked at the Gynac - hinting her to speak her part and giving Manik a smile, she reassuredYes there is nothing problematic. Baby and Mother; both are absolutely fine. There is temperature but as the Doctor said - it will be down in a day. Don't give the regular paracetamol. I have prescribed these medicines. They are mild and safe for both the mother and child.Saying so; she passed him the medication and taking it with a nod; Manik shifted his gaze to the Dermatologist - who said, while tending her fingersBurns are also slight. The flames had only singed her skin. I have applied this unction. It with soothe and cure them rapidly. Keep using it.She gave him thetube and then handing one moreointment; she added, addressing Nandini who had asked her to examine Manik's leech bites firstYour guess was correct. The leeches weren't poisonous luckily. But the cuts are deep. The antiseptic you've used is really potent but I am still recommending this. It will cool the sting. Mouthing a ThankYou; Nandini smiled faintly at her - a favor which she returned instantaneously and then the Physician rejoined; sewing the medical report up as all the three of them took to their feet to departSo taking everything into account; I would say that there's nothing to get worked up about. Make her eat something light and then give themedicines. They are really effective but if you want; you can continue withthe wet strips. It will tone down the temperature in a shorter while. Get Well Soon and Take Care.Courteously; Manik extended his gratitude to each of the doctors personally; footed their bills and instructed the Manager to guide them out and escort them to the helipad. Manik tum kahan chalegaye they?Nandini shot her question at Manik; who had taken quite a lot of time in comingback to her from where he had gone post the Manager and Doctors' exit; on seeing him enter the room with a tray in his hand. Sitting beside; he took off the wet cloth the he had earlier put on her forehead and then replied, making her sit against the headboardSorry Baby! Woh main tumhare liye soup banaraha tha na; isliye thoda sa time laggaya. She justhmmedout of debility and thentaking the bowl from the tray; he said, blowing the air on the spoonful and feeding it to herYeh bohot bland hoga per woh doctor ne bola ke yeh hi sahi hai. Please bear with it.She smiled and smiling back;he leaned closer to suck her lips like he always does but just when their lips were inches away; she brought her handto his lips and whispered, lowering her head while he looked on with confusion in his eyesDon't Kiss Me Manik. I am not fine. It won't be good for your health. At her words; his ebony eyes hooded withintensity all of a sudden and without replying anything; he set the bowl down on the table, slid hishand in her hair to spoon it around her nape and pulling her closer; just fusedhis lips with hers. His lips were dying to be aggressive but considering her fragility; he curbed his desires and kissed her sedately; brushing his lips sweetly across hers while she satfrozen in his touch. He tried to keep the kiss brief but failed as his lips meldedinseparably into hers; like a soul in body; and after what seemed like an aeon, when she shuddered out ofbreathlessness; he pulled away - panting and puffing and thenspoke or rather warned, locking her eyes with hisMy health won't be good; if I don't kiss you. Don't ever say that again. Your lips are mine and I will kiss them over and over - no matter what. Even if it kills me. Aaj rokliya; aagey kabhi bhi mat karna esa. Okaye? Her cheeks blossomedwith fire from inside and smiling shyly; shepecked on his lipsin answer and then said, as he lifted a spoon full with soup to his lips after making her supManik you don't need to drink this. Please have something else na. Its so tasteless. He fedher with another sip and replied, slurping down onehimselfArey its not tasteless. Its meetha meetha. Delicious. Because my babyhas tasted it. And tumhare saath share karta hoon na; toh plain rice bhi duniya ki sabse tasty dish lagti hai. For some good minutes; she stared at him- admiring his eyes that were testimonies of his truthful confession and then repliedBolna kya seekh gaye; aap toh aajkal humein hi chup karwaney lagey hain Mr. Malhotra! He gave a smug smile; biting his lower - lip on which she tee - heed - putting his heart at peace and continued the dinner. . . . . . Manik please rehne do na. Kab tak karte rahogey baba?Nandini said; taking hold of Manik's hands that were endlessly and without a pause; slaving away in a fit to take the edge off her pyrexia. Paying a deaf ear to her plea; he again swapped the cloth on her forehead with a wet one and asked, raking his fingers through her hairAbhi thoda theek lagraha hai? Dawai khaker itnider hogayi na. She sighed and answered, after tugging him closer to lie beside her and burrowing into him like a babyJabse theek ni lagraha tha. Per ab its perfect. Mani! Tum ek fever ke liye itnaworry karogey toh kaise chalega? Jab Baby ke aaney katime hoga tab toh meri haalat issey kahi zyada serious hogi. Tab kaise handle karogey? You have to be strong.A single drop of fret and disquiet welled up in the corner of his eye and coursed down his cheek and he replied in a choked voice, huddling up to her and joining her forehead with hisI can't be strong Nandini when it comes to you and our baby. Mera iss duniya mein tum dono ke siva aur hai koun? Tumhe thodi bhi takleef hoti hai na; toh mujhse bardasht nahi hota. Aur meri wajah se tumhe itna sab kuch hogaya. I am so sorry.Smiling at his affection; she kissed his tears away and said, embracing him warmlyJab tak tum saath ho na; mujhe kuch nai hosakta. And tumhe sorry bolney ki koi zaroorat nahi hai.Actually na; yourchotu baby is exactly like you. Usney Daddy ko pain main dekha na first time - isliye darr gayi. Ab Daddy theek hai na toh baby bhi jaldi se fine hojaegi aur saathmein Mamma bhi. Okaye? Toh abhi smile kardo. Please. Your babies are missing your smile. Her magical words; like always; travelled straight down to his heart and consoled it with their sweetness and as it smiled; a beautiful curvesettled on his lipsand lovingly kissing her lips, he remarkedOnly you can cheer up my heart. I feel so blessed to have you. I Love You So Much! She mumbled a sugary'I Love You too!' and then bending down; he planted a kiss on her tum and saidAnd Daddy loves you too Princess! Sorry apko dara diya na Daddy ne. Per ab I am perfectly alrightna - I will make itup to you. DekhnaDaddy jaldi se aapko aur Mamma ko theek kardenge. Muah!Nandini smiled athis yet another adorable talk with his daughterand then teased to lighten up the mood; ruffling his hairMamma aur Baby ko toh theek hona hi padega. Warna aaj sirf teen doctors bulwaye Daddy ne. Next time pura hospital hi ghar la denge. She tittered at her own sarcasm and he replied sincerely with a pinch of drama, giving a petulant lookHaan Haan! Udhalo mazakh. But Mrs. Malhotra; aapke yeh sab bolne se main rukne wala nahi hoon. Yeh aap bhi jaantey ho. Agar aap theek nahi huay toh I won't think twice before doing whatever you just said. So if you don't wantthat then be a good baby and obey to what Papa says. Rounding her mouth in a perfect cutest O; she gaped at him in disbelief and smiling at her adorbs; he gave her a smacker - making her blush and said, gnashing his teeth out of LoveTu itni cute harkatein karegatoh main kaise khudko rokunga hmm? Don't tempt me okay. I can't afford to run you out of breath in this condition.Blushing profusely; she slapped his chest playfully - on which he chuckledand then she asked, tracing the wounds on hisback softlyAbhi bhi dard horaha hai kya? Hoga hi na! They're so fresh. I am so bad na Mani! Tumhe abhi meri zaroorat hai aur ulta main hi tumhe ..Hushing her with a peck; he shook his headin a no and said, cupping her cheekNo Baby! Aisa kuch bhi nahihai. Mera dard toh tabhi gayab hogaya tha jab tumne cuts per kissie di thi. So don't think all this rubbish and blame my innocent baby. Okaye? He smiled; seeing her bob her head cutely and then added, cuddling her in his armsChalo ab so jao. Dawai ki wajah seneend arahi hogi na baby ko. Soneyse pehle Kuch chahiye toh mujhe batao.Being the cuppycake, gumdrop, snoogums - boogums she is; she pouted her lips asking for a kiss and awwing at her antic till his heart's content; he kissed her pout loudly for several times andthen said, snuggling her impossibly closer and brushing her nose with hisSarey world ki sugar aur chocolates ko saath mein milado na toh bhi koi tere jesa sweet ni bansakta. Muah! And before I gobble you up - close your eyes and sleep. Good Night Honeybunch. She giggled at his comment; makinghis heart flutter with bliss and then wished back, after pecking hislips and nuzzling up to himGood Night Papa! And before he realized; she slipped in a soundslumber but he didn't even blink for once. Sleep was far far awayfrom his eyes as her temperature was still not normal and to make it so; he placidly detangled himself from herand resumed the wet cloth therapy with a determination to keep up with it until she is totally relieved; even if it takes his entire night and sleep combined.
