Chapter 15 (REWRITE)

Just as they had just both gotten comfortable, there was a knock on the door.

"I'll be right back." He got up and opened the door. "Hi, mom," he said with a warm, loving smile.

"Hello, dear," she said as they hugged. She walked in. "Who is this?" She pointed to Rose who had stood up when she arrived. Rose looked at Henry's mom's dirty blonde hair that went down past her shoulder by about an inch. Like Henry, she had kind red eyes.

"Mom, this is Rose, my . . . Pet," Henry said hesitantly, not really knowing how to introduce her. His mom walked over and hugged Rose. Rose remained stiff as her wide eyes looked at Henry.

It's ok, she's like me. Remember, she likes humans, Henry thought to her. Rose exhaled as she relaxed more and hesitantly hugged back.

They pulled away from one another.

"My name is Lisa, and it's so nice to meet you. Henry doesn't go out much so I'm glad that he has you." They each smiled faintly at each other. Henry's cheeks lightly blushed out of embarrassment. "Has he treated you well?" Lisa asked.

"Yes, Ma'me," Rose said.

Lisa stared at her. "I feel as though you're only telling half the truth."

"What-" Rose started to say.

"Oh, silly me. My power is to be able to tell when someone is telling the truth or lying." She looked closely at Rose's neck and saw the two sets of bite marks. Though he had helped heal the wounds, there were two slightly red and raised areas. "Henry, have you drunk out of her?!" Lisa snapped, almost yelling. Rose faintly jumped at the sudden noise.

Henry opened his mouth to answer, but surprisingly, Rose beat him to it, "It's o-ok. He helped me heal," Rose said.

Lisa's face softened as she looked at Rose. "Are sure you're ok?" she asked.

Rose nodded her head.

Lisa turned back around and faced Henry. "Do you like Rose?" she asked.

The room grew awkwardly silent. Henry was trying to think of how to respond while Rose just wanted to crawl into a dark hole.

"Yes," Henry finally answered. His cheeks turned bright red. He looked at Rose, and she smiled at him, her cheeks doing the same. Rose would be lying to herself if she said she wasn't scared, but Henry had said that Lisa was like him. So if she trusted Henry, she could trust Lisa? From the small-time Rose had been with her, she felt like she could.

Rose's thoughts ceased when a knock at the door sounded. Henry's eyebrows scrunched together. "You didn't invite dad, did you?" he asked.

"Of course not, honey."

This only increased Henry's confusion. Opening the door, every muscle in his body tensed, but he forced out a smile.

"Rider, what brings you here?" Henry asked.

"Can I not visit my little brother from time to time?" Rider jokingly asked as he pulled Henry into a hug. Henry tensely hugged back. Before Henry could tell Rider to go away, he had already walked into the house.

There is something familiar about that man's voice, Rose thought to herself. Rider looked around the room but stopped when he and Rose made eye contact. That was when Rose got a good look at his face – the light brown hair that was styled messily, and the dark red, violent eyes. Her eyes widened and she nearly crumbled to the ground.

Henry's brother was her old Master.
