Two words: Ensemble. Contest. I was in a duet with my friend Shania, also a flute player. We had the notes down pat beforehand, so the only last-minute thing we had to practice was the dynamics. On the stage, I was so focused on what we were doing that I forgot there was a judge in the room, despite my heart going ninety miles an hour. We got a 37/40, three points away from a perfect score!
I decided to wear a dress for today, and was the only girl from my school wearing one. I find that ironic, because nowadays it takes something major to get me in a dress. This is what it looked like:
