39: Sweet Soldier

"Okay said if you could do anything over again what would it be?" Steve asked as we walked down the pathway at Central Park. People walked past us with their loved ones or their dogs. Mine and Steve's hands were intertwined as we walked. We decided to leave the tower a little bit while Emma gives Adam an interrogation. Who knows what she'll do?!
"Maybe be a hero from the start instead of the enemy" I answered his question.
"You're not the enemy anymore, Jade" he said letting go of my hand and wrapping his arm around my shoulder pulling me close to him. Johnny and Ella had actually went on their date. Johnny has been more happy and full of energy like the old Johnny use to have all the time.
"Thanks for trying to make me feel better" I said smiling as I looked up into his blue eyes that made my stomach flutter. I always felt safe around Steve. I felt protected when I was holding his hand. It was so comforting to know someone loved me. Well instead of my family loving me. Me and Steve have been together for a few months now. And we also took the job of taking care of Lucy. Speaking of Lucy she was skipping ahead of us with excitement. We decided to take her outside so she could see the rest of New York. I felt like all my worries were gone.
"You're welcome" Steve said kissing my head as Lucy picked up a flower and ran back over to us.
"That's very pretty, Lucy" I said as she put the flower into her hair.
"Hey Lucy, how would you feel about going to school and meeting kids your age?" Steve asked messing up Lucy's head of blonde curls.
"I don't know" Lucy mumbled as we continued to walk through the park.
"You're gonna be fine. I went to school when I was your age and I was fine" Steve lied. I knew about him being bullied on the playground when he told me his little story.
"Really?" She asked looking up at Steve hopefully.
"Of course" Steve said smiling at her. I can't take all this cuteness!
"Please stop! I'm allergic to cuteness" I said making the two of them laugh.
"I know I'm cute!" Lucy said before skipping ahead of us again. I couldn't help but smile as she enjoyed being out of the cell in Hydra. It made me happy that she was free.
"Jade?" Steve asked breaking me away from my thoughts.
"Hmmm?" I hummed as we continued to walk.
"Have you ever wanted children?" He asked.
"Of course. I'm use to taking care of them because I took care of Alison almost everyday" I said as we both watched Lucy.
"How much would you want your own child?" He asked, "scale of 1 to 10."
"10" I said without hesitating. In the corner of my eye I saw Steve smile slightly and we started to catch up with Lucy. Steve scooped her up into his arms and tickled her gently causing her to giggle. Lucy took the flower out of her hair and put it on Steve's ear making me hold in my laugh. Steve smiled before setting her down on the ground.
"How fabulous do I look?" Steve asked making me laugh.
"You. Look. FABULOUS!" I said in a funny voice making Lucy laugh.
"You're hilarious" Steve said putting his arm around me again.
"Thank you! I try very hard" I said simply with a smile.
"I love you for it" he said. I was still shocked every time he said I love you. It made me feel all happy inside. All these emotions are confusing. I turned towards Steve and stood up on my tippy toes and kissed his cheek.
"You are such a sweet soldier" I said staring at him with a smile. I smile a lot. I guess you could say Steve makes me smile.
"Thank you! I try very hard" he said quoting my words from earlier. I couldn't help but smile again at his words. This man makes me feel so happy.
"And I love you for it" I said hugging his arm as we walked. Lucy ran back over and walked in between us. Steve messed up her head of curls again making her fix it again quickly. I laughed softly at Lucy as she quickly fixed her hair. She reached up and slapped Steve's stomach since she can't reach his shoulder or his chest. He grabbed her with his free hand and pulled her close to us. Too much adorableness in one day. I can't handle the amount of cuteness. It's killing me slowly but surely. Steve picked up Lucy and balanced her on his hip as we walked. He kissed her pale cheeks softly before kissing my head.
"My two favorite girls" he said hugging us both. I couldn't help but blush and tried to hide it, "I see that blush!"
"What?! No! Me blushing! Never!" I said putting my hand on my chest trying to defend myself.
"I saw it" he said, "it was adorable."
"I try" I said.
We arrived at the small diner and we took our seats near the window. Lucy sat beside me and Steve sat in front of us. We looked through our menus before ordering our lunch and getting our drinks. Lucy decided to get a little emotional and tell us about everything she remembers from being in Hydra. I felt bad for her. I looked at Steve and smiled sadly.
"I'm gonna go to the potty" Lucy said hopping out of the booth and heading towards the bathroom. Once she walked away I looked at Steve.
"I want to give her the best life we can" I said.
"We can try, Jade. Maybe you could move into my apartment with me. I was thinking about buying a apartment but or I could ask Tony if we could have some stuff changed to our floor" he said.
"We could change Thor's room into Lucy's room. Or I could sleep with you in your room and Lucy could have my room" I said taking a sip of my soda.
"Whatever you want to do" Steve said as Lucy came back to the booth and climbed into her seat.

Flashback
After I helped Lucy with her bath and getting her hair all washed up and nice, we decided it was time for questioning. She still refused to leave me or Steve so we both told her that we'd ask the questions. Me and Steve sat in front of Lucy who was hugging the teddy bear that she had with her. It looked like the eye was about to pop out.
"Alright kid-"
"I have a name" Lucy reminded Steve making me smile.
"Lucy, what did Hydra do to you?" I asked. She bit her lip and stayed silent not wanting to answer the question. I saw Steve get an idea and he stood up and walked over to Lucy. I raised my eyebrow as I watched Steve bend down to her height.
"Can I see the bear?" He asked. Was he really going to hurt a stuffed bear?! Lucy nodded and slowly handed him the bear, "what's his name?"
"Caramel" Lucy said as Steve took a big breath. I watched in curiosity as Steve began to make the bear come to life.
"Hi Lucy! I'm Caramel! Can you do me a favor?" Steve asked in the best bear voice he could muster. Lucy nodded her head and smiled at the stuffed bear, "can you tell Jade and Steve what Hydra did to you?"
"I-I can't remember much. A-all I remember is a bunch of needles" she said making my jaw clench. They did exactly what they did to me to Lucy, "and a s-small space."
"Do you remember anything before Hydra?" Steve asked.
"Only my name and age" she said.
"How old are you?" Steve asked moving the bears arms and legs.
"I'm 7" she answered. She reminded me so much of Alison. Tears formed in my eyes as I pictured Alison in Lucy's place. I took a big breath before blinking away the tears that threatened to spill. Lucy couldn't answer anymore questions due to the tears that were rolling down her pale cheeks. Steve wiped them away with the bear's soft paw. My heart melted a little bit.
Flashback Over

I wanted to give Lucy the best life ever. She was in Hydra for her whole life. I wanna change that and give her something much better than Hydra. I want to give her a family. Me and Steve could be her family. I've always wanted children. Maybe I could settle with Lucy for awhile until I'm old enough to do grown up things.
After we ate our lunch we headed back to the tower. I guess Johnny and Ella's date went well because Johnny wasn't bugging Ben about anything. Tony and Bruce were in the lab. Thor was probably eating poptarts. Natasha and Clint were in the training room doing their usual training. Matt and Emma were now in the other training room practicing a little bit. Sue and Reed were probably with Tony and Bruce. Thea and Arianna were at school today. I felt kind of bad that I left school but I'm not 16. I'm 18. I was actually happy I didn't have to go to school anymore.
When we got to our floor, Lucy ran out of the elevator and took off her shoes before getting a water bottle out of the fridge. I walked back to my bedroom and took off my shoes and grabbed one of Steve's sweatshirts and a pair of shorts before taking my shower and changing into the comfy clothes. I walked out of my room and plopped onto the couch. I didn't know where Steve was. Maybe he went to the training room. I decided to look for Steve. I walked to his room and opened the door without knocking only to see the Soldier without a shirt.
"Hey Steve" I said covering my eyes but I found myself peaking at the soldier. Oh my god! He is gorgeous.
"Like what you see?" He asked with a smirk.
"When did you start acting like Johnny?" I asked as he started putting on a dark blue t-shirt. I've only been in Steve's room once.

Flashback
"My floor JARVIS" I said as I took out my phone.

Can we talk?~ Mr Liberty

I raised my eyebrow at the message before walking out of the elevator and down the hallway to Steve's room. I knocked on the door and waited for an answer. The door opened and Steve stood there. Shirtless. My face turned bright red as I stood there with a loss for words. He grabbed a shirt and pulled in over his head and covered his chest and torso. He pulled me into his room and shut the door behind me.
"So what did you want to talk about?" I asked as I looked around the neat room before turning to face Cap. Soon his lips were pressed against mine. I was taken back by the action not knowing what to do. I stood there not knowing if I should continue. He broke the kiss and stared into my eyes.
"Uhhhhhhhhhh" I said with a loss of words.
"I like you Jade. I really do. You're different than other girls" he said as he gave me a quick peck on the cheek before leaving the room, "I gotta go talk to Stark." I watched as he closed the door leaving me shocked at what just happened.
"I'm in a bit of a pickle" I mumbled before running out of the room and down the hallway to my room.
Flashback Over

His room was very nice and neat. He chuckled at my words before walking over and giving me a small hug that was actually comfortable. I'm growing too soft, aren't I? He gave me a quick peck on the cheek.
"Hey uh... Can we train a little bit tomorrow?" I asked smiling.
"Sure" he said resting his forehead against mine.
"Awesome sauce" I hummed wrapping my arms around him and burying my face into his chest. I love this super soldier.
