Our Teenage Dream

"No, that's indecent," Harry said, peeking his head out so you could see him from the other end of the backseat. "We've got (Y/N) with us, have you forgotten?"

"So?" Greg laughed, "It's not like you don't know what a naked woman looks like, Harry."

Harry smirked a little but still shook his head. "She'd be uncomfortable." He glanced at you for only a second.

You continued to watch Niall, and he continued to remain silent as he seemed more consumed by the new song on the radio. It wasn't Ed Sheeran anymore, but rather another male singer with a voice that seemed to interest Niall. You could tell it was his first time hearing the song as he paid attention to the lyrics, bobbing his head from time to time. He tapped the steering wheel with his fingers, following the beat of the song on the radio.

"Fine," Greg settled, "Then we can just sit by the water and dip our feet in or somethin'. I'm gettin' tired of sittin' in this car." Niall took a quick glance at his brother from the corner of his eye, only picking up this part of the conversation.

Niall parked his precious car in the grass that surrounded the small lake. It was deserted now, and you had the entire place to yourselves. You felt just... free to run, or whatever you might have wanted to do. You felt like there were no boundaries out there, nobody to stand in your way. The guys all piled out of the car rather quickly. Harry and Louis raced each other to the water while Liam and Greg strolled alongside each other, chatting about a topic you couldn't identify from where you were. You trailed behind them, as did Niall. You were walking now, but as slowly as possible, because you knew Niall was still in his car, pressing buttons on the radio. When you heard the sound of his door slamming shut, his voice called out to you, "Y'alright there, (Y/N)?"

You spun around and grinned happily at him. "I'm fine," You shrugged. He jogged to catch up to you, until he was walking beside you. "If you guys really want to skinny dip, it's alright. I can deal with it."

"Yeah?" Niall turned to you with a laugh, "You just wanna see me naked, admit it." He winked at you and you rolled your eyes, hoping to hide the fact that you actually probably wouldn't mind the view.

"Niall, what do you think about?" You asked, because the thought was killing you. It was poking at you and you couldn't keep it quiet anymore. You were desperate to know what went on inside his complicated mind, almost like a reader yearns to know what'll happen in the next chapter of the novel.

"What?" He asked with a laugh, burying his hands in the pocket of his pullover hoodie, which had Michael Bublé on the front of it.

"Just...what do you think about? When you're quiet and staring off into space, or smiling for no apparent reason, what are you thinking about?"

He smiled faintly and nodded, stopping to sit down on the grass that lined the water. The other guys were already splashing around in the lake, but Niall chose to stay back with you and watch them instead of join them. He leaned back on the palms of his hands and crossed his legs. You followed suit, eager for his response. Sighing, he spoke, "I think about everything, really." He turned to you with that faint smile still on his lips, "I think about people and how they work. I think about the world and what we're making of it. I think about my future, and sometimes I think about my past, too. I think about things that people have said to me. I try to understand what makes people do the things they do. I think about what my life will look like when I'm not out here takin' road trips with you lot." His eyes fell to your hands, and as he stared at them, he added with furrowed eyebrows, "Y'know, I do think about you an awful lot, as well."
