— Sammy, don't forget. — Katherine grabs a taser from a vase standing on the bedside table in the hallway and throws it to her girlfriend, who smiles gratefully, catching the object in flight. — I won't take the car keys, we'll walk faster than if we drive through all these New York traffic jams.
Carpenter nodded and shouted to Quinn that she and Murphy were leaving, both girls left the apartment, closing the door behind them.
When the five survivors of the Woodsboro incident in 2022 had just moved to New York, the former redhead wanted to rent a separate apartment, not wanting to harass either Samantha or Tara, with whom she had already had too strained a relationship at that time.
It's not like things are much better between former best friends right now.
The brunette searched the Internet for apartments for rent near the place where the Carpenter sisters settled, but Sam brought her a duplicate key to their apartment with Tara and said that if she was ready and, most importantly, wanted, they could live together.
Yes, living together in the same room may seem a little cramped, but it seemed like a joy to the girls in love, to be constantly around, to bump into each other here and there, and all that sort of thing.
As soon as the two girls left the house and were forcibly dragged into the nightlife of New York, Katherine squinted in annoyance when a lady passed too close to her and, nudging her with her shoulder, just walked on as if nothing had happened.
— I hate this city. — Murphy muttered to herself, taking Samantha's hand, instantly intertwining their fingers, and when she saw her look, she replied. — What? This is a joke. And I took your hand so that I wouldn't get swept away by the crowd, not really because I wanted to, just so you know.
The elder Carpenter grinned as if she believed her lover's words and walked forward, pulling the girl to her so that their forearms pressed against each other.
— Come on, it'll be faster this way. — The brunette pulled Sam away from the stream of people who, even in the late evening, still go somewhere instead of staying at home and relaxing after work or something like that. She walked to the edge of the sidewalk and, looking back, quickly ran across the road between the cars in traffic, waving at the drivers in an apologetic gesture.
When Sam pulled ahead again, wanting to get to the place where the party was taking place faster and, consequently, to Tara, Sidney's niece saw flashing red and blue lights in her peripheral vision and turned around sharply.
Goosebumps ran over her skin from this picture, it reminded her how a year ago, back in Woodsboro, she and Samantha also watched the police cars passing by, which, as she later learned, were on their way to the murder scene of her friend and his mother, the sheriff.
— When I was walking away from the therapist, I also saw police officers, they were standing at one particular house. — Noticing how her girlfriend hesitated, Carpenter decided to mention what she had witnessed about an hour ago.
Roman's daughter nodded and decided to put it out of her mind, despite the flashbacks that filled her head. This was clearly not the moment when she could afford to revisit what had happened in Woodsboro a year ago. Think of Vince, Wes, Judy, Dewey, and... Amber and Leslie.
— Wait a bit. — The former redhead tugged on Sam's still-entwined hands and reached into her jeans pocket with her free hand. She sighed in exasperation, but separated their hands, realizing that they would need to be separate now more in case of any unforeseen circumstances. Comfortably gripping the handle of the balisong, she grinned at her lover and pointed at the door. — Cute girls go ahead.
