— Tara asked, and I didn't really mind. She wanted to go to the same college as me when she graduated from high school. — Murphy shrugged vaguely. — Plus, I really miss Woodsboro. Of course, I've had my share of shit happen to me in this town, but I was born and raised in it.It's not much, but it still means something.
Samantha nodded understandingly.
— But who told you that I was away for a while?
— Uh, Tara. — Carpenter blushed and began twirling the ring on her index finger, not looking at the redhead. — She was just telling me about what I missed. That's all. — Katherine stopped at a traffic light and turned to Sam, about to say something to her, when several police cars quickly passed in front of her car, encircling an ambulance.
Samantha nodded understandingly. The girls exchanged glances and, after a nod from Carpenter, Murphy turned left, where the police cars quickly sped off and followed them.
— They're going to Wes and Sheriff Hicks' house. — The redhead said in a low voice, and she was right.
Katherine jumped out of the car after Samantha and walked a few steps to the yellow ribbon. There were several ambulances parked in front of the Hicks house. There was a body lying on the path leading to the front door, half wrapped in a white cloth. She managed to catch a glimpse of who it was before the corpse was completely covered with a sheet over its head.
Judy Hicks.
Sam tried to get behind the yellow tape, but was stopped by a policeman, preventing her from getting closer to the crime scene. He told them that her son, Wes, had died with the sheriff.
The slam of the door forced Murphy to tear his pain-filled gaze away from Judy's body covered with a white cloth, who was kind to her in her own way, invited her to dinner with her and her son a couple of times when Leslie was once again too busy with work to come home and see her children.
The redhead looked at Sam's stunned face and, putting her arm around her shoulders with one hand, hugged her to herself, with the other hand comfortingly running down her back.
In this position, they were found by Gale Weathers, who stopped in front of the two girls and looked into the blue eyes of Sidney's goddaughter with a raised eyebrow.
— Hi, Katherine. — Gale, dressed in a red pantsuit, smiled at Katherine and Samantha, who shuddered and literally jumped away from her ex-friend, blushing deeply, as if they were caught kissing, and not just hugging to calm down.
Murphy chuckled as Weathers spread her arms wide, inviting them to cuddle. — Come on, now it's my turn to get hugs from you.
Carpenter blushed even more and cleared her throat, looking away, trying not to pay attention to how Gale was scanning her with a curious but withering gaze.
— We haven't seen each other for a long time. I think the last time was when Jill threatened us both with a gun.
— In short, an ordinary Tuesday. — Weathers looked over the redhead's shoulder, saw the corpse, and looked back at Sidney's goddaughter's face. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw Dewey, who was talking to a man, walking somewhere in the direction of the Hicks house. — Are you okay? I remember Sid telling me that you were friends with the Sheriff's son.
Katherine saw Gale's impatience to run to her ex-husband and, given the glint in her eyes, most likely kiss him (or slap him), so she decided to let the woman do exactly what she wanted, instead of sticking around with her.
— It's all right. I'm fine. You can go now.
Weathers didn't need to be told twice and the woman immediately rushed to Riley, furiously clicking her heels.
