— Oh, I'm sorry, Tara, but that's just not correct. The correct answer is Billy Loomis and Stu Macher. I'm sorry, Katherine, but Tara has to answer the questions, I won't take your answer into account. I'm afraid someone's got to die now. — «Charlie» drawled in a deceptively sad voice.
Carpenter, grabbing a knife, rushed to the front door and Katherine did not have time to stop her, she could only briefly touch her shoulder with fingertips. Only almost at the door the two friends caught up.
— Tara, stop! He's just trying- — Murphy seemed to be watching in slow motion as her best friend grabs the handle and opens the door, behind which, God, how unexpected it was, there was a man in a Ghostface costume. She pushed the girl in the pink sweater aside.
The knife, instead of cutting Tara's side, cut the side of the red-haired girl.
Katherine punched her attacker somewhere in the neck and, with a grunt, leaned against the door, wanting to close it. The Ghostface managed to reach out with a knife into the open crack and he groaned when the door, under the pressure of two girls, began to put a lot of pressure on his limb, trying to close despite the obstacle.
Carpenter turned the lock and, taking her best friend by the arm, quickly led them away from the door. She noticed the blood slowly soaking the white fabric of the shirt.
— It's just a scratch. — Murphy hissed through her teeth, trying to at least calm down the younger girl, who felt more like her sister than just a friend, even if the best.
The Ghostface hit the door powerfully several times, but it held. More eerie was the rasping sound of a knife being driven along the outside of a wooden door.
— The police are on their way. — Murphy muttered to her best friend, feeling a beginning weakness all over her body. Her brother would be disappointed that her condition was already deteriorating so quickly, due to just one shallow wound. — Hold the knife in your hand and don't let go.
Katherine, clutching the wound with one hand and holding the knife in front of her with the other, turned her head sharply towards Tara when she heard that all security systems were disabled. They played a kind of ping-pong with the attacker, then blocking, then unblocking the security systems.
— «If this shit lasts any longer, I'll just pass out». — Murphy thought, leaning wearily against the wall with her back, the hand with the knife was lowered due to lack of strength to keep it straight in front of her. Still, perhaps the wound was more serious than «just a scratch», as she claimed earlier.
No, really, her whole family would be disappointed.
When the struggle for the door stopped, Katherine, clenching her teeth, pushed off from the wall and stood in front of the younger Carpenter, clutching the handle of the knife tightly in her palm
Other hand was almost useless, so slippery with blood still flowing from the wound that she couldn't even hold an ordinary ballpoint pen with this hand, let alone hold and swing a knife.
The phone rang and the redhead wanted to stick a knife in it. Under the attentive gaze of her best friend, Tara reached him and pressed him to her ear.
— Bonus question, Tara. Do you think I made it inside your house before you could rearm?
As if sensing this, Murphy turned to the passage to the kitchen, to which Tara's back was standing and from where a Ghostface quickly jumped out, intending to strike an almost defenseless, damn scared girl somewhere in the body.
He only managed to cut her shoulder slightly when Katherine ran up and began aggressively waving a knife in his face. She didn't hurt him, but she drove him away from Tara for a couple of seconds. It was enough for the girl to run away, grab her knife in her trembling hand and stand next to her friend.
Apparently convinced that he would only get to Carpenter if he neutralized Murphy, Ghostface changed his course and attacked her. Avoiding the swings of the two blades, he grabbed Tara by the back of the head and lightly hit the wall, temporarily removing her from his path. He will be able to deal with her, without any outside interference, only after he has dealt with her friend.
Ghostface intercepted Katherine's knife with a gloved hand, threw it somewhere to the side and used his own blade, driving it into the shoulder of the weakened girl.
Exactly the place where, a few years ago, her still naive little girl was wounded by Jill Roberts in her own insane attempt to get rid of the only witness, Sidney Prescott.
Murphy screamed and managed to kick the man in the suit right in the knee, causing him to lose his balance, albeit only for a couple of seconds. But he still managed to get another punch, right into the mask, from her. Grabbing the bloody knife, he grabbed her by the neck and painfully pressed her forehead against the stone countertop, knocking her out for a while.
Just long enough for him to start chasing Tara. Carpenter screamed, stabbing the knife somewhere in the back of the Ghostface. But he just groaned, pulled out the blade, and turned to Carpenter. The brunette resisted as much as she could, but still received a stab wound right in the stomach, several in the back, a broken leg and a palm pierced with a knife while trying to protect her head.
Both girls were saved only by police sirens, which scared the Ghostface and he ran away.
Carpenter was clearly hurt a lot more than Murphy, who was wounded by the masked man as if for show a couple of times and knocked out for the rest of the evening.
So that she doesn't get in the way.
