Chapter 31

SALVATORE SCHOOL-LIBRARY/CORRIDOR- NIGHT
Audrey: (O.S.) I'm no stranger to death, but that doesn't mean I want to talk about it. [Girl is writing a letter: "Dear Grandma,I've been thinking of you, wishing you were here."]
Hope: (O.S.) Today is rememberence day. Which feels like a some sick joke, because just last week our dad died. Again.
Klaus patted Hope and Audrey's hands. They sent him a smile.
Audrey: (O.S.) Once a year for Remembrance Day, we're asked to write letters to our lost loved ones. [Rafael is writing letter, too: "Dear Cassie, I miss you every day."]
Hope: (O.S.) We sign our names, fold them up, and scatter them throughout the cemetery...
Audrey: (O.S.) But i guess, me and Hope got lucky since we got the chance to actually talk and spend time with dad. But it doesn't make pain lesser.
People look at them sympathetically.
Audrey: Right now i miss him more than ever. I guess it's better than first time he died, Because since i accidentaly almost burned the group of friends who were talking badly about him and Hope caused wind storm, everyone is scared, so no one dares to mention him even in private.
"It's not easy to control powers." Defended Hope.
Audrey: That could also be caused by the fact that i threatened i would kill them if they ever mention dad again and snapped vampire's neck for special effects.
"Audrey!" Said Hayley.
"I don't regret it." Said Audrey.
"It's not--" said Hayley.
"Don't say it's not right, okay? Do you know what's not okay? The fact that first message i got after's dad and uncle Elijah's death was invitation to a party to celebrate their death! And it wasn't from only one person. It was from multipule people to multiple parties! And it kept going for MONTHS!!" Said Audrey. People look at Audrey with pity. Klaus and Elijah look guilty.
"Oh, sweetheart. I'm sorry." Said Hayley.
"It- it's cruel." Said Freya.
"They didn't know my true identity." Said Audrey.
"It doesn't make it right." Said Hayley sadly.
"You haven't say anything about it to me." Said Hope.
"What was the point? It would just upset you more." Said Audrey. Audrey leaned into Klaus's arms. Klaus wrapped his arms around her.
[We see Hope and Audrey who are sitting in library. Hope is drawing Klaus and Audrey is reading a book.]
"Good drawing." Complimented Kol.
"Thanks." Said Hope.
"Diffenetly better than original." Said Kol and gave Klaus a look. Klaus rolled his eyes.
Hope: (O.C.) Neither me or Audrey usually see the point in writing a letter. Why write to the dead? I'd rather not think about it at all.
Audrey: (O.C.) Except lately... [Rafael kisses the letter and puts it in a bowl.]
Audrey&Hope: (O.S.) Death keeps knocking on our door. [Hope, Audrey and Rafael are walking in corridor, when they see some girl enter the school.]
Rafael: (shocked) Cassie?
"Cassie as in... his girlfriend?"  Asked Caroline.
"Yss." Answered Hope.
Cassie: Raf.
Audrey: Cassie? As in...?
Hope: Isn't that your...?
Rafael: My girlfriend. [Rafael and Cassie hug.]

[Alaric stabs Necromancer in the head.]
Necromancer: Was that really necessary?
"Should have stabbed him deeper." Said Audrey.
Alaric: I told you I need answers.
Necromancer: Why would I help you? You have me in chains. This indignity will not go unpunished.
Alaric: We have been at this for days. Answer my questions, or I'm gonna peel your skin off like a grape and shower you with battery acid.
"Go Ric!" Said Damon proudly.
Necromancer: A rather grotesque effort, considering it will feel like the delicate tickle of a feather. [Necromancer takes the axe out of his head and gives it back to Alaric.]
"I hate this arsehole." Murmured Audrey.
Alaric: All right. Let's see how this feels. [Alric takes out object to burn Necromancer. Hope and Audrey enter.]
Hope: Dr. Saltzman.
Necromancer: Oh, there you are, lovely girls. I was wondering if you'd come visit me again. How was your reunion with your father? [Audrey gives him a migrane.]
Audrey: Watch it, you ugly clown! You are lucky they didn't let me in here!
"He really is. I would definetly torture him." Said Audrey. Hayley looks bothered how easily Audrey is talking about torture. Which Audrey thinks is hypocritical considering her mother's past.
Necromancer: (glaring) How's your friend, the one I saw with you two earlier, trying to steal an illicit peek at me? [Hope and Audrey glare at Necromancer.]
Hope: As we speak, he's having an emotional reunion with his dead girlfriend. I assume we have you to thank?
Necromancer: Poor dear. Her spirit was clinging to him like a vine in winter. It took barely any effort. Just a little wrinkle of the nose, and poof. Young love reborn. You're lucky that's all I did. The way you've treated a man of my stature, you should be ashamed.
"Egocentrical maniac." Rolled her eyes Audrey.
Alaric: Literally nobody knows who you are.
Necromancer: (scoffs) That's impossible.
Alaric: I'll check on Raf. [Alaric leaves.]
Necromancer: I-If you want an end to this misery, simply bring me the Knife and I'll be on my way... You want your daddy back, don't you? Give me the knife and you'll get him back.
"Don't listen to him." Warned Klaus.
Alaric: Audrey! Hope! [Audrey gives one last look of hatred to Necromancer and leaves.]
SALVATORE SCHOOL-CORRIDOR-DAY
Hope: I take it things aren't going well?
Alaric: He's a diva.
"That's understatment." Said Hope.
Audrey: So what's the plan?
Hope: I know you don't want to give over the Knife, but we can't have him raising the lost loved ones of every person in this school.
Alaric: I will handle it. I have questions that need answers.
Hope: Okay, well, I'm not sure your
methods are the most effective.
"They never are." Said Audrey.
Alaric: Hope. I said I will handle it. Now, just stay away from him.
[Audrey rolls her eyes. Clearly doesn't care what Alaric is saying. Alaric sits in front of Rafael and Cassie. Hope and Audrey leave.]
Alaric: Cassie, is it? Cassie, I'm Dr. Saltzman. I am here to help you.
Cassie: I... I don't understand what's happening. Why am I here?
"Poor girl." Said Caroline sympathetically.
Rafael: I didn't know what to tell her.
Alaric: Um, well, do you mind telling me the last few things that you remember?
Cassie: Um...Raf and I were driving home from a track meet. The roads were bad, it was wet, and then dark, and I heard this voice telling me to open up my eyes, and then I was here.
Alaric: Okay. Well, listen, this is gonna be really hard for you to understand, but... those memories you have, those are from two months ago. You were in a car accident. You didn't survive. And tonight, you were resurrected from the dead.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-CORRIDOR-DAY
[Hope and Audrey are walking in corridor. Hope is holding a book. Audrey is talking to Kol on phone.]
Audrey: Find anything yet?
Kol: Necromancy is everywhere in occult literature.
"You told Kol?" Asked Klaus.
"Partly. I kept you out of the story. Like i told him about Necromancer showing up, bringing back Jo, but i haven't told he brought you back, too." Said Audrey.
"Why not?" Asked Kol.
"You are cool uncle and all that, but even you have limits. If you found out he had power of bringing back originals and he tormented your nieces with it. You wouldn't let us stay." Said Audrey.
"And he would be right. It's not child's job to deal with that!" Said Hayley.
Audrey: I know that. Necromancy is a form of sorcery that dates back to ancient Greece. It involves the ability to communicate with and raise the dead.
[Hope looks at her surprised.]
"Like i said i studied necromancy for a while." Said Audrey.
Kol: Yes, But there's nothing about a specific necromancer, so whoever he is, he's been erased from history like every other creature that comes looking for the Knife.
Hope: (scared and worried) Is- is there any way to stop him from bringing back dead people? [Audrey holds Hope's hand in support.]
Mikaelsons look at girls sadly.
Kol: If there is, i haven't found it, but l will keep looking.
Audrey: Thank you, Uncle Kol. Sorry for bothering.
Kol: You aren't bothering. I have nothing better to do anyway. Hope, how are you? We haven't talked in a while.
Mikaelsons(except Marcel) smile at Kol.
Hope: I-- I'm good. How are you and aunt Davina? Others?
Kol: We are all good. You could call more often. It would make us all happy.
Hope: Yeah. I'll think about it.
Audrey: Bye, uncle Kol. I'l call you back later.
Kol: Bye. Be careful.
Audrey: Always am. [Audrey hangs up. We see Hope and Audrey are already at Cellar's door.]
SALVATORE SCHOOL-CELLAR-DAY
[Necromancer is sitting in his cell.]
Necromancer: Ah. Ooh. You have a powerful scent of death on you. [Hope and Audrey enter.]
Necromancer: Uh-huh... It's quite lovely, really.
"Everytime i see him i have this urge to rip his head off." Said Audrey.
Audrey: We came to talk. [Necromancer walks toward them.]
Necromancer: (Sighs) Such a puny creature dares to dalliance with The Almighty Necromancer?
Audrey: Punny? I'm THE mythical Tribrid. You are just a clown with cheep tricks. What can you do except bringing back dead? Nothing. I can break every thingle bone in your body and paint my nails at the same time. [Hope gave Audrey a look.]
Kol and Klaus laugh.
"Really?" Said Marcel.
"He insulted me first." Pouted Audrey.
Necromancer: And what that power do for you? Everyone you love still dies... [Audrey's breath hitches.]
"He is even more annoying than Nik and it takes effort." Said Kol to light up a mood.
"Ha Ha." Said Klaus dryly.
Necromancer: And you can't do anything about it. You can't protect them and you can't bring them back.
[Necromancer smirks at how much his words effect both-Audrey and Hope.]
Necromancer: (To Audrey) One day your sister will die, too and all you'll be able to do is watch like you... [Audrey boils Necromacer's blood. Necromancer falls on the floor and yells in pain.]
"He so deserves that!" Said Freya.
Audrey: You think you are something? You are hiding behind this facade, pretending to be almighty god, But in reality, we both know you are nothing. That's why you created this mask, isn't it? That's why you play with people's feelings. It makes you feel important, it makes you feel powerful, but you aren't. You are nobody and you know it!
[Audrey takes book out of Hope's hands and throws it at Necromancer.]
"You go Audrey!" Cheered Davina. Audrey smiled at her.
Audrey: Look at it! You don't even exist! [Necromancer stands up angrily.]
Necromancer: How dare you?! You will not get away with it!!! [Necromancer throws a chair at her and chair hits the cell.]
Hope: She is telling truth. You don't exist. Let me lay it out for you. You died, you were in a dark place for what felt like an eternity, until suddenly, you were pulled into the light with a singular, inexplicable mission to retrieve a Knife. [Necromancer's rage seems to be overwhelmed by curiosity.]
Necromancer: Do continue.
Hope: It's been the same with all the creatures that came before you. A dragon, a gargoyle, a... an Arachne, a dryad.
Necromancer: Bah. Such creatures exist only in fiction.
"So do you." Pointed out Marcel.
Hope: No. They've been erased from history, and so have you.
Necromancer: (Laughs) That's preposterous. I'm world-renowned. People tremble at the sound of my name.
"Does he not remind you of Klaus." Said Damon to Stefan. Stefan noticed Hope, Audrey and Klaus's glares and nudged Damon to shut up.
Audrey: Don't believe us? Read up. [Audrey lifts one of the books up with magic and opens it on a page about Necromancer. Necromancer takes the book and reads it.]
Necromancer: (Inhales sharply) No! No! No! No! [Necromancer rips book apart and throws it away.]
Necromancer: No! No! (Shouts) A lifetime's work, my legacy, reduced to something as-as pitiful as a brand of sorcery? Where I am barely a footnote?
Who's responsible for this vile affront?
Hope: That's what we were hoping you can help me figure out. [Necromancer takes the chair and sits.]
Necromancer: Well, then, I'm all ears.
Audrey: If you want to get to the bottom of this, we need to know who's communicating with you.
Necromancer: No one's communicating with me. My mind is a steel trap.
Hope: But you knew to resurrect Dr. Saltzman's dead fiancée right after he mentioned her to the dryad.
Audrey: Wait! If he figured out about Jo because of Dryad, How did he know to ressurect dad then?
Necromacer: (smirking) Oh, i knew your father. We had our fair share of drinking. When he was at his most murdery. Interesting man.
Everyone looked at Klaus.
"I have never met him... unless Malivore made me forget." Said Klaus.
Audrey: Do you know what's more interesting? How long it will take for your loungs to grow back. Let's check!
"Do it!" Encouraged Kol.
"Kol!" Scolded Davina. Audrey smiled at her uncle fondly.
[Audrey raises her hand to use magic, but Hope stops her.]
Hope: Now isn't time for this. [Audrey glares at Necromancer, but puts her hands down.]
Hope: (to Necromancer) Listen, It can't be a coincidence. You're all coming after the same thing, communicating in some way, so who's pulling the strings?
Necromancer: I am no puppet. (Exhales) It's less a voice, more an instinct. I simply know things.
"Sounds like a puppet." Said Marcel.
Hope: Like you know you're here to retrieve a Knife and return it to a place called Malivore.
Necromancer: If I return the Knife to Malivore, I will be free.
Audrey: Of what?
Necromancer: The blackness. The void. The empty oblivion.
Hope: Do you ever just say things once?
"He doesn't." Said Hope and Audrey.
Audrey: More importantly, do you know how to get there?
Necromancer: Only that the Knife will lead me. [Hope shows Necromancer Malivore symbol's drawing.]
Hope: I'm assuming you know this symbol.
Necromancer: It is the sign of the worst existential nightmare. The ultimate hell. The...
Audrey: (annoyed) You're doing it again.
Hope: Focus. What does it mean?
Necromancer: That symbol represents what you say has happened to me. It means no one remembers you. No one celebrates you. No one mourns you. Loosely translated, it means "permanent death."
