Chapter 38

TRIAD-NIGHT
[Clarke is talking to a man.]
Security guard: No record of any employee named Seylah. You sure she worked here? [Clarke shows him a photo.]
Clarke: I can't think of any other reason she'd have our logo around her neck. I need access to the backup archive.
Security guard: Access requires a password only granted to employees with the highest level security clearance. Takes longer than a couple months here to work up to that, young buck. [Clarke smirks.]
Audrey bites her lip. Hayley notices and raises her eyebrow at her, Audrey shrugs.
Clarke: Echo four-seven-seven Kilo Foxtrot Victor. [The man opens the archieve.]
Clarke: That wasn't so hard, was it? [Clarke walks in archieve and starts searching. He goes to one of the drawers and searches through documents. He opens Seylah's file.]
Clarke: Absorption date? If you went into the pit years ago, how the hell were you here last night?
Security guard: You all right back there? Find what you're looking for?
Clarke: (smiling) No. I guess I was wrong. First time for everything, right?
Security Guard: I'll show you out. [Security guard goes. Clarke follows. He adjusts his suit and we see he's stolen file and is hiding it in his clothes.]
"Who really is he?" Asked Freya.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-CHILDREN'S ROOM- 12:00 A.M.
[Something knocks on the window. Pedro wakes up and looks around. Then he stands up and walks toward noise barefoot. He opens the glass door and when he sees no one, he closes it back. Some creature, which is dressed in blacks flies to him slowly. Pedro turns around and sees her trying to attack him. Pedro covers his face.]
"Oh my god!" Yelled Caroline. Everyone looks at child scared.
[Suddenly, Pedro wakes up screaming. Turns out it was dream.]
Child 1: It's just a bad dream, Pedro.
Child 2: Go to sleep, Pedro.
"Why are we atching some kid's dreams?" Asked Marcel.
"Another Malivore creature?" Offered Elijah.
SALVATORE SCHOOL- LIBRARY- 2 A.M.
Hope: How long do you think it'll be before the next creature shows up?
Alaric: It's hard to say. I've never actually seen an artifact glow before. Where did you hide the urn, by the way?
Hope: I'm not sure i should tell you.
Alaric: Excuse me?
Hope: Isn't it safer if less people knows where it is?
"I'd prefer if that person won't be you or your sister!" Said Hayley.
Alaric: Then that one should be the adult.
Hope: Funny, because I thought it should be the ones with high-level superpowers.
"She has point there." Said Damon.
Hope: What do we tell everyone else? We should probably warn them before a cyclops crashes exam week.
"Ughh... exam week. I didn't miss that." Said Audrey.
Alaric: It's usually best to start with some form of the truth.
Hope: What about those times the truth is the one thing you can't say?
Alaric: Are you sure you want to keep all of this from Landon? I mean, I understand you wanting to protect him, but...
Hope: He's been wondering about his mother his whole life. He finally meets her and then she dies. If I can keep him from knowing what that feels like, then it's worth it.
"Secrets only creat more problems." Said Hayley.
Hope: (Sighs) Look, it's my secret to keep, Dr. Saltzman. Please.
Alaric: Okay.
Hope: Thank you.
Audrey: The trick is to give everyone the right amount of information without giving away too much.
"Useful method." Agreed Audrey to herself.
Audrey: I brough coffee. [Audrey gives one to Hope and keeps one to herself. Alaric looks at her.]
Audrey: What are you looking at? Oh, wait. (Laughs) You though i would bring it for you, too? [Hope kicks Audrey's leg.]
"I love her beef with Alaric." Laughed Kol.
[Alaric sighs and turns back to Hope, who is looking at him apologically.]
Alaric: We've been through this before with the Knife, so it shouldn't come as too much of a shock. This is our chance to do things differently, more responsibly.
"He's at least doing this right." Said Audrey.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-HALL/CORRIDOR-NIGHT
[Alaric is giving speech to students.]
Alaric: Yesterday, I came into possession of another Malivore artifact. It was my hope to find a method of containment before it signaled another monster, but given the emergency meeting I've just called, I'm sure you can guess how well that went.
Landon: (to Rafael) Do you see Hope or Audrey anywhere? [Rafael looks around.]
Alaric: But rest assured we are taking every precaution. Sheriff Donovan has been kind enough to open the doors of the Lockwood Mansion to us, so Mr. Williams and Ms. Tig are now in the process of evacuating our students from the lower grades.
"Good idea." Agreed Caroline.
Kaleb: Why don't we just evacuate the damn artifact?
Alaric: We are much more well-equipped than the world at large to handle the arrival of a monster. Once we know what we're dealing with and the problem is contained, then we can reassess what to do with the artifact. If any of you would like to evacuate, please talk to Dorian or Emma. However, exam week will continue as scheduled, wherever you are. [Students groan.]
Alaric: I know. I'm sorry. I can't exactly call the state accreditation board and tell them that we're cancelling the exams because of monsters.
Audrey: (rolls her eyes) Here he goes again.
Alaric: We'll get through this, I promise. Try and get some rest, okay? Good night. [Studebts start leaving hall.]
MG: (to Kaleb) You evacuating?
Kaleb: Hell no, man. I got four exams in the morning. Need my beauty rest.
[Landon and Rafael are walking in corridor. Rafael yawns.]
Landon: Hope is M.I.A.
Rafael: Yeah, Hope and Audrey are probably suiting up in their battle armor. They're basically Wonder Women.
"I like superwoman more." Said Audrey.
Landon: Either that or she's realized she's made a mistake bringing me back here 'cause where I go, danger follows.
Rafael: (sighs) My God. Come on, bro. Now, this one's not on you.
Landon: I mean, her being distant today has got to have something to do with us waking up in a field with amnesia yesterday, right?
"He is half right." Said Davina.
Rafael: Look, until one of you can remembers how you guys got there, I just... I-I just wouldn't think about it. Look, you're here. Think about the good things in your life instead of getting caught up in the bad for once, bro.
Landon: Yeah. Uh, I'm gonna grab my bags and hit the library.
Rafael: Okay. I'll see you at breakfast in the morning?
Landon: Yeah, see you at breakfast. [Rafaela nd Landon hug and they walk away.]
Rafael: Hey, Lan, I'm glad you're back. It was lonely without you. [Landon smiles.]
"I love their bond." Said Davina.
SALVATORE SCHOOL GROUNDS/BUS-NIGHT
[Children get into the school bus.]
SALVATORE SCHOOL-MG'S DORM/ALARIC'S OFFICE-NIGHT
[MG is sleeping. Malivore creature floats closer to MG. Alaric is sleeping in his office, at table. Creature tries to reach him, too. Scene switches between how creature is trying to reach Alaric and Mg.]
Some look at them worried.
[Both Alaric and MG wake up.]
SALVATORE SCHOOL-LIBRARY -NIGHT
[Rafael is sleeping in library. Audrey wakes him.]
Audrey: Raf. Hey.
Rafael: I passed out, huh?
Audrey: (Chuckles) You're very cute when you sleep.
"What?!" Said Klaus and Hope.
"It's not me. I think it might be his dream." Said Audrey.
"Wait... do we have to watch his wet dreams?" Said Damon. Every Mikaelsons stimulatly turned toward Damon and glared. Damon raised his hands.
"Okay, okay. Don't bite my head iff." Said Damon.
"Damon! Keep quiet!" Said Stefan.
"I swear he's gonna get us killed." Said Caroline.
Rafael: What?
Audrey: What?
Rafael: Um, sorry, but I thought you said, um... You know what, forget it. My brain's fried.
Audrey: (seductivly) Then maybe you should take a break. [Audrey kisses Rafael, Rafael kisses back.]
"I'll kill him!" Growled Klaus.
"Not if i get ther first!" Said Kol. Marcel and Elijah glared at Rafael with them.
[Suddenly, scene changes. Kurt slaps hand on desk.]
Kurt: (yelling) Where is it?!
Rafael: Kurt? What are you doing here?
Kurt: You pathetic little punk. [Rafael flinches away. He's covering himself with his hands.]
"Rafael looks so scared. Who is he?" Asked Caroline, looking at Rafael worried.
Kurt: Where the hell is it?
Rafael: Where's what?
Kurt: You know what I want!
Rafael: (Crying) I don't know what you want. I don't know. [Malivore's creature appears.]
Creature: You know... what I want. [Kurt hits Rafael with belt. Rafael wakes up panting.]
Girls look at him worried.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-LIBRARY-7 A.M.
[Hope is putting cream on Rafael's injury on hand from belt. Alaric and Audrey are there, too.]
Alaric: This happened to you in a nightmare? Are you sure?
Rafael: Look, I know that it sounds crazy, but I was studying and then I fell asleep, and then I just started dreaming about...
Mikaelson men glare at him.
Audrey:About what?
Rafael: Um... Um... One of my old, uh, foster dads. He was in the library, and he had this old belt that he used to use on me. [Audrey looks at him sadly.]
Audrey: I'm sorry. Do you remember anything else?
Rafael: Yeah, there was, there was this woman there, too. She was wearing an-an old, black dress and-and a veil.  And she told me, "You know what I want." But...
Hope: The urn.
Alaric: Sounds like our next monster showed up.
Audrey: Creature. Is it so hard to say? C-R-E-A-T-U-R-E. Creature!
Alaric: You know, every culture on Earth has legends about creatures that only appear in dreams. But a woman in a black dress and a veil is pretty specific.
Rafael: So, does that mean that she can, like, control what we see in our dreams? That she can put stuff in our, in our heads, right?
"Sounds like someone has a crush they don't want to admit." Said Freya teasingly.
Alaric: It's possible... Does that look familiar? [Alaric gives book to Rafael. Rafael looks at it and nods.]
SALVATORE SCHOOL-HALL-DAY
[Alaric is giving speech to students.]
Alaric: Our latest Malivore creature is a Night Hag--
Audrey: Finally!
Alaric: --a malevolent spirit trapped on the astral plane that can only interact with us through dreams. In this case, nightmares.
MG: So, like Freddy Krueger?
Alaric: Well, in the sense that what happens to you in your dreams seems to also happen to you in real life, yes. But the good news is we're safe, so long as we stay awake. [Students start murmuring.]
"How long can you stay awake? Some people need sleep." Said Davina.
"Everyone does." Said Caroline.
"Not vampires." Said Damon.
Boy: Stay awake?
Alaric: I've lined up more evacuation shuttles. They should be running all afternoon, so please, for those who don't want to stay and fight, take advantage of them. All right, that's all. [Students get up and start to leave. Landon approaches Hope.]
Landon: What about you? You had any bad dreams last night?
Hope: No. I-I barely slept. Just a lot on my mind.
Landon: Yeah, same. Just got the first-day jitters. (Chuckles) So, has anything, um, come back to you yet about our little amnesia trip? I mean, this can't all be a coincidence, right?
Hope: Uh, you know, let's focus on one problem at a time, okay?
Landon: Okay, but, I mean, can I at least help you solve this problem? I can be a research assistant, I'm CPR certified, and I know a little tai chi.
Hope: Landon, I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the best way that you can help is by evacuating.
"Yes, but what if creatures follow him? He is clearly connected to them." Said Stefan.
Landon: Well, are you leaving?
Hope: No. I need to stay here.
Landon: Okay, then thanks, but I should probably get to class. [Landon leaves. Hope sighs. We see Jed, Lela and Audrey talking.]
Audrey: So... are you gonna leave?
Jed: Are you?
Audrey: Of course not.
Lela: Then neither are we.
"You have got good friends." Said Elijah.
"I know." Said Audrey with smile.
Audrey: (sighs) Look, if you want to leave--
Lela&Jed: I don't.
Audrey: Just know i won't be mad if you leave. Actually, it would be better. Less people to worry about.
Jed: We know. We chose to stay.
Audrey: Okay. I'll talk to others.
