14. King

MIAMI GP

It's been a couple of months. Charles is gone for the race weekend again. I get used to it of him being away but today I need him like now. I nervously walk up and down after I dialed his number. But he is not picking up.

E: Come on Charles, please pick up.

I know he's right before the race start but this can't wait. He has to know. I need him here. Finally her answers the phone.

C: Hey princess, what's up?

E: Cha, you need to come home.

My voice cracks. I can't hold back my tears any longer. I'm not strong as soon as I hear his voice. I can hear him telling Xavi is going out to talk in private. I wait for Charles.

C: Is something wrong with Grace?

E: No... No, she's fine but -

C: Baby, please breathe. What's wrong? Why do you want me to come home?

He is always so calm, helping me to stop crying.

E: Everything is going to change. Grace will-

C: Listen, no matter what's going on. Grace will be fine. We're gonna do this together.

*** FLASHBACK ***

While Charles is in Miami, I had to stay home for some royal duties and for Grace. I only visit Charles at the European races so I'm still there for Grace.

I walk through the palace after a meeting with Simon and some politicians. I hear my Dads talking with a raised voice. The door to his office is lightly open. I hide behind it and try to listen.

KG: No, it's about time. They'll do great, Sophia.

QS: George, I'm not worrying about Simon. I'm worrying about Elisabeth. You know they don't want Grace in public.

KG: Elisabeth knows about Grace being more in public. They're princesses. I did everything to prepare Charles for this. And then we did everything for Grace to get prepared for this.

QS: I don't think they're ready for this step already. We can be happy that Charles and Elisabeth stayed in the royalty. Don't scare them away now.

KG: We always said, that I'll step back as a king when I turn 60.

I take a step back from the door shocked. What's going on?

QS: I'm not feeling good with this. Liam and Ann are still too young so Elisabeth has to step into Simon's role as crown princess.

KG: Simon and Elisabeth are not even respecting me as a king anymore. They always blame me. It's time. I'll tell them, when Charles is back.

I hear footprints coming closer. I quickly run away back to my house. This can't happen.

*** End of Flashback ***

E: Charles, my dad wants to step back as king.

C: Woah what? He doesn't want to be king anymore?

E: Yeah..

I sigh and lean against the wall.
