This was Charlie's first full year living in LA. One full year of actually getting along with Nicole. Around two years since his separation from Nicole. Charlie would be lying if he said he didn't love his life now. Everything was perfect; he couldn't have asked for anything more.

It was Halloween which had perfectly landed on a Saturday. Henry had begged Charlie and Nicole to let him go trick or treating with his cousins, and Cassie was more than happy to take him along with them. Wanting to prioritize Henry's happiness, Charlie and Nicole agreed. Honestly, they were both excited to spend Halloween away from Henry. They loved Henry, but being a parent is hard and they needed a break.

"Charlie, what are you doing this weekend?" Luke asked. Luke was another professor at UCLA that Charlie worked with.

"Nothing. Henry's going out with his cousins, so I get the weekend to myself, why?" Charlie turned away from the coffee machine to focus on Luke.

"Welllllll, Jenny, Harris, Monica, and I are all going bar hopping, wanna join?" UCLA was such a nice environment, but his colleagues were a little younger than he was and had no kids.

"I think you forget I'm older than you."

"Charlie, you keep using that as an excuse." Luke stood from the table and walked over to Charlie, "you're newly single and don't have your son for the weekend. Come out with us! It can't hurt!"

Luke asked Charlie this on Monday; it's currently Friday night. Charlie had been wracking his brain over if he should go or not. On one hand, it would be a great way to bond with his colleagues, but on the other hand, he just wanted to relax and sleep. His mind had been listing the pros and cons all week, and he still couldn't come up with an answer.

"I know that look," Nicole said, trying to analyze Charlie's face. Charlie had bought Henry's costume, and Henry wanted to try it on before Halloween night. "There's something on your mind, what is it?"

"Oh it's nothing."

"Nope, that means it really is something. Come on, tell me."

"A couple of my colleagues want me to go bar hopping with them, but I'm not sure if I should go." A long pause of silence was broken by Nicole's laughter. You would have thought Charlie was the funniest man on the Earth by the way she laughed.

"Are you serious? This is what you're stressed out about?" Nicole asked through labored breaths. Charlie only nodded his head in response, "Charlie! This is your first Halloween without Henry, without worrying about me, and without any other responsibilities. Go have fun! Shit, I know I would if I were you." Since their divorce, Charlie had learned that he should probably take Nicole's advice. She was WAY smarter than him and had a knack for seeing things through every angle.

"Well, what are you doing this weekend?" He asked her, curious of what her answer might be. She looked up at him with a smile, "I'm going to a Halloween party – adults only." It was at that moment Charlie knew he had to go out with his colleagues. It would be fun right?

Wrong. Charlie was having a terrible time. The music was too loud and unintelligible. His colleagues were nearly black-out drunk, and they had only been to one bar. Charlie had been getting a lot of attention from the ladies, but they all looked like they were a few years older than Henry. He had also been getting attention from the guys too which he let down gently. Overwhelmed by the whole atmosphere, he decided to go outside, and that's where he met you.

You were outside dressed as Katanna from Mortal Kombat, smoking a cigarette. You wore a shiny, blue crop top with lace work in the middle. You wore matching shorts to leave some things to the imagination with a piece of fabric hanging between your legs. Your hair was up in a high ponytail, so that your face was on display. Charlie couldn't help but stare at you. You completely took his breath away. He thought you hadn't noticed him staring until he heard your voice, "are you just gonna stand there and stare, or are you gonna come talk to me." You heard Charlie gulp and chuckled at his fear. "I don't bite, unless you want me to." Charlie's face turned as red as a tomato, and you could only shake your head.

"I'm sorry; I didn't mean to stare. It-it's just that you look..."

"Beautiful?"

"Ethereal." Your heart pounded in your chest at his words. You were pretty, and you knew that, so you knew all the things guys would say. This, this was different though. A man had never called you that before, and you would be lying if you said it didn't pique your interest.

"I've never heard that one before."

"Really?" He asked, finally making it next to you, "it was the first thing that came to my head."

"Oh, so you're smooth?"

"I wouldn't call myself that. I'd just say that I like to tell the truth." Heat flushed over your cheeks, and butterflies started to form in your stomach.

"I'm (Y/N)."

"I'm Charlie. Wanna grab a drink?"

"I'm down as long as you don't spike it." Charlie chuckled and rolled his eyes at your joke, "I'm not a frat boy. You have nothing to worry about."

You and Charlie hit it off. The two of you drank and talked about everything that night. The two of you talked about your lives, families, careers, dreams, etc. You loved his company, and he loved yours. You had instantly made this night worth it for him.

"You know, I was going to leave when I walked outside."

"But you stayed, why?"

"Well, I saw you." A smile creeped on your face, but not for the reason Charlie may have thought.

"That was corny as fuck, dude. That was like Shakespearan level of corny."

"Hey hey hey, Shakespeare isn't corny. He's a literary genius." Charlie threw his hands in the arms, causing you to crack up laughing.

"It is the east, Juliet is the sun, seriously?!"

"I will not contend."

"Well Professor Charlie, I think you need to!" Silence fell between the two of you. A silence that was peaceful and held no awkwardness in it.

"You doing anything after this, professor?"

"I'm actually not doing anything after this, miss poet."

"Well, you are now!" You grabbed his hand and pulled him out of his chair. He was shocked by your strength, and turned on by your determination. The two of you went into the night together. Eh, you all went into your apartment, into your bed, and out of your clothes.
