The Gambler

I finished up with Hecate— satiated but not content. It was my greed that had bested me. I had wanted her. But my ploy hadn't worked.

Though, the presence of my succubus companion had stirred something in her eyes, it wasn't enough to tip the domino.

"Same time tomorrow," she asked, running a seductive finger over my jaw before grabbing her skin tight black dress from the ground. "You must have your hands full with that girl."

I laughed softly, reaching into my pocket and grabbing some Danari and tossing it to her casually.

"I always appreciate the stress relief," I chuckled.

"And I always appreciate your business," she smirked, catching the coins smoothly.

She pressed herself against me once more, swiping her thumb beneath her bottom lip to clean some of the smudged lipstick from her chin.

"I'd suggest booking your appointment for the solstice. My schedule is filling up quickly," she sighed, looking up at me beneath her false lashes.

I sighed. "We'll see," I said causally.

She frowned. "Are you forgetting our tradition, Mal?"

I snorted. "You mean the one where we fuck like animals till dawn? Hell no," I chuckled. "But I have plans this year."

"Plans," she asked, folding her arms. "You never have plans."

I rolled my neck tiredly. "Things are changing now," I shrugged. "I'm a busy man."

"Too busy for me?"

"I wish I could say otherwise, Cate," I said. "But I'm not a grunt anymore. I have a position next to the Morningstar."

She let out a whine. "Come on, baby," she pleaded, batting her lashes. "For me?"

I laughed at her pouting. "When things settle, perhaps I could give you a treat for your patience?"

The corner of her blood red lips quirked upwards and a mischievous glint appeared in her dark eyes.

"I'll think about your proposal," she said, turning for the door. Her hips swayed with each step before bending down to grab the purse she had thrown to the ground. "Till next time, Malachi."

Then she fizzled out of this plane like a shadow and I was left alone.

Letting out a heavy sigh, I grabbed my sweatshirt and carefully walked out of the room.

Fuck. I was so tired.

Without my second heart my stamina was completely depleted after only five rounds with Hecate. Hopefully she didn't pick up on the subtle pitfall.
