"Come on, little witch. You're only prolonging the inevitable. We're going to have you one way... or the other..."

The Witch
"Sweetie, are you alright in there?"
Genny's voice was soft through the door, and she was worried. I shut off the water, taking a stabilizing breath. When I opened the door, Genny's kind older face was right there, tight with concern.
"I'm fine," I say, forcing a smile. "Don't worry."
She frowned. "You're sure? You looked like you saw a ghost."
I loosed a breath. "I promise. I'm fine, Gen."
"You had another vision didn't you," she said, her tone becoming much more severe.
I groaned. "No. I would always tell you about them if they were concerning."
She looked like she almost didn't believe me.
"Well, come sit back down. I liked how happy you looked in there," she said hopefully.
I shake my head. "I have to go back. I don't want to be out after dark."
Gennevieve took my hand. "You can't always be afraid of the darkness, sweet girl. You'll miss out on all of the good things that come with the night."
Considering the last time I was out after dark got me in deep with some very threatening demons, I would be happy to never see the moon again.
"I'm just practicing caution. Like you taught me," I assured her gently. She gave a saddened smile. "Ok. Do you need a ride?"
I shake my head. "I'm sure James will walk me back."
Her smile becomes warmer. "Good. That boy has had puppy dog eyes for you since you were just kids. Bless his heart."
"We're better off as friends, Gen. You know why it would never work between us," I swallow.
Even if the stars had been aligned before, I was now deemed a plaything for some extremely horny demons. It would be selfish of me to drag him into this hell pit.
Suddenly, I became all too aware of the messy state I was in.
"I'll be in for my shift tomorrow," I spoke again. "Same time?"
She nods. "Rest up tonight," she said.
"Bye, Gen," I said, heading back into the cafe's dining room. "I'm going to head out."
As soon as James heard me enter, his head perked up from his phone and he got up.
"I'll walk with you," he offered.
I swallowed hard. I didn't like having to look him in the eye after what had happened in that bathroom. I held his gaze for only a moment before dropping my eyes again.
"I'd like that," I said hoarsely.
"Hey, are you okay? You don't look so hot," he said quietly.
I quickly look back at him. "Yea. I'm good. I promise."
