"School" was like diving into a flock of giant sparrows, all empty-headed and twittering over one another, their paws swooping and flying in from all directions at once.

Anhilde warned me that if I bit anyone, they would return me to my prison, but when the onslaught came I risked baring my teeth and whipping a few reaching paws with my tail.

One of the foster-mothers (or perhaps I should say foster-father, though it sounds strange), a human with a shiny head like a gnome, was the most intelligent human I have yet encountered. He spoke of the sea, the wind, and the rain, and I wanted to crow with exultation. Finally, something to think about! Something to do!
