Chapter 16

Lyra, woke up with quite a dizzy head, blurry vision, and a fever that although wasn't excessively high, it made her feel extremely nauseous. Something churned in her stomach, as she kept puking.

Delilah and Mary had to attend their uncle's funeral today. Even though Delilah protested to stay and take care of her, Lyra forced her to go. She even requested her to get her medicine from the local doctor since she doesn't rely on the royal doctor.

The current royal doctor was the one hired by Lady Medea. The previous royal doctor was fired and presently worked at a local clinic instead. Despite him leaving, whenever the princess would fall sick, they would nevertheless get medicine from him secretly. Lyra believed in him completely. After she found out about her father's poisoning, she switched all his medicine and gives him one by the local doctor. Although her father isn't aware of this fact.

Delilah felt complexed. She wanted to stay and take care of her lady, yet at the same time, she knew she had to get medicines from her. Lyra had additionally requested her not to inform anyone of her condition as she didn't wish to make a big deal out of it.

Even her elder sister, Astrid, was unaware of this fact since she was fast asleep. Astrid slept quite late last night after taking a sleeping pill and when this happens, it would be impossible for her to wake up any time before the afternoon. Therefore, Delilah did exactly what Lyra asked her to do. After informing Solon that Lyra was busy, she promised Lyra that she will be as quick as possible.

As Delilah and Mary were gone, Lyra, who was in her bed trying to fall asleep, suddenly felt thirsty. She turns to her right to find an empty jug with her an equally emptied glass on the bedside table. Coughing, she groans about having to go to the kitchen downstairs to obtain water. It was times like this when she extremely missed her previous lifestyle.

Sitting up, her head sways around. Taking deep breaths, she sits to gather herself for a few moments. After a brief pause, she weakly gets up and starts walking slowly.

After a few steps, she stopped. Her breathing had become shaky as she felt as if her heart was beating so fast that it would burst any moment. Tears filled her eyes perhaps due to the fever. Her vision had become blurred as she undertook a few steps more. Her throat was parched. Her heart was beating faster than ever. She holds on to the railing of the stairs that had come into her view as support. Breathing heavily, she stopped.
