POEM #7: AM I THE JOKE?

"Am I The Joke?"

I signed up for a romance story

I was expecting a nice sweet melodrama

With the symphony being heard in the night

And the warm sun shining on our skins

So why is this so dramatic?

Why are there guns and bombs?

Shattered windows, broken bones

Broken hearts shattered dreams

Underwhelming plot and scenes

Bland characters that fade in the background

This Love is a comedy act

I laughed at first because they told me,

Laughter makes everything better

But it isn't funny, not anymore

My cheeks are tired of smiling

Muscles are wasted in a game of pretending

Is everything just a joke?

Am I the punchline?

Am I the laughing stuff?

Am I just a joke to you?

I write this pathetic poem as I doubt myself

I look in the mirror and see a clown

Smile fool, I SAID SMILE!

Look at yourself and those lies

Should I continue this role of a fool?

Should I wake up in this beautiful dream?

Where you are the comedian, this is a comedy

And I, the stupid I in my poems is the only joke to be seen.
