Sasuke could sense how surprised Ayame was. When she turned around, her heart stopped altogether, before regaining a fast pace after a millisecond. She stared at him, eyes wide and mouth agape as she stuttered for words.

"Marry me?" He repeated, as his first question hadn't provoked any words or action from her.

Ayame was still staring, lifting a hand to her face as a small sob broke from her lips. He couldn't tell whether she was happy or not.

Sighing very lightly, he repeated himself a third time. "Please marry me, Ayame. I can't imagine living my life without you, so I won't wait, no matter what people say, to make you my wife. You're so beautiful, kind, loving, smart, brave. Can't you see why I want to marry you? I love you so much. I want you to marry me. So, will you?"

Whatever hesitation holding her back was now shattered instantly. A small jerk of the head quickly became a furious, excited nod. As if one nod wasn't enough, she continued nodding even as she placed her hand in his waiting one, watching as he slid the ring onto her finger.

If she thought her other ring was beautiful, this one put it to shame. It was of the same metal as the last, but this one had no inscribing or letters to tell her what it meant. She knew what it meant full well, and in the place of where otherwise there would be words, were now several tiny crystals, winding all the way around the ring.

Sasuke straightened up, a wide smile growing on his face at the look on hers. She looked as if she was struggling to control her emotions; a wonky smile was on her face - which was mostly covered by her hand - and tears were rolling down her cheeks, though her eyes were smiling too.

"Come here, sweetheart," Sasuke chuckled, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her to his chest. Her arms wound around his neck, hugging him as tightly as humanly possible.

"I love you too," Ayame mumbled, from where her face was buried in his shoulder. "I love you so much. I can't describe how much I love you."

He chuckled, placing several kisses on the side of her head. "You can't love me more than I love you."

"Wrong."

To this, he laughed again. Once his laughter died down, he hummed in content as his arms pulled her even closer, smile on his face.

"You're going to have to tell my dad about this," Ayame mumbled into his ear. "I'm not going to get myself killed and tell him. You're going to go to see him, tonight or tomorrow morning, and ask him for permission to take my hand in marriage."

"But I've already proposed. You've said yes. It's too late."

She leaned back, looking him in the eye. "I don't care. I won't wear this," she waved her hand with the engagement ring on in front of his face. "Until you do. No marriages will take place until you've asked my father's permission."

"But Ayame-" he began to whine, but she cut him off with a small kiss.

"Just do as I ask, for once. Please. This is an important deal to me, and I want my family along with me every step of the way. Well, maybe not the entire way, but..."

Sasuke nodded. "Okay, okay, I understand. I'll see your dad tomorrow, alright?"

She smiled. "Thank you, Sasuke,"

"No problem, beautiful. I just hope he doesn't try to kill me again."

To this, she giggled.

Sasuke pulled up outside the house with a small sigh. He glanced at himself in the mirror in front of him, feeling oddly nervous as he played with his slightly wild hair.
