Chapter 25: In Another Life

The clouds above slowly started to darken as a drizzle sprinkled from above. He saw Taeyong trudging back to the car and got in too. Taking a deep breath, Jaehyun took one last desperate attempt at being selfish but he couldn't as he let out a shaky sob.

"Let's go" Taeyong smiled as he got in the car. "The rain makes me wanna snuggle with you under a warm blanket"

Taeyong's smile made Jaehyun's heart throb with pain as he tried to hold his tears in. He knew that this was the moment to break the ice. Yuta was coming back tomorrow and he had to do this before things could take a turn for the worse

"Taeyong" Jaehyun said with despair in his voice  "I need to tell you something"

"Yes?" Taeyong looked back with wide eyes.

"Yuta's coming back tomorrow..."

Taeyong smile slowly turned into a frown as he hung his head and nodded. " I know Jaehyun. But we-"

"No Taeyong listen" Jaehyun cut him off.  "Yuta's coming back tomorrow and I need to say this to you before he does" 

He clenched his jaws and continued "Because I know you'll do something you shouldn't. Something you'll regret. Something I'll regret"

Jaehyun took a deep breath and let it out.

"When Yuta comes back, he's going to propose you...

He wants to marry you"

Jaehyun could see the shocked look on Taeyong's face and as much as it pained him, he gripped his heart and held on.

"And I want you to accept it"

"Jaehyun what are you saying you're joking right? Please tell me that you're joking" Taeyong quickly replied as panic laced his voice. 

"No I'm not Taeyong" Jaehyun shook his head with tears in his eyes "I want you to accept him. I want you to accept his proposal. I know you love him."

"But I love you too Jaehyun I-"

"And I love you too. But us? It can never happen. We can never be together and I know you know that too Taeyong. You can deny as much as you want but deep down you know that we can never be together"

"Jaehyun please don't say things like that" Taeyong started crying as tears streamed down his face. "We could work this out. We can make it work. I swear..... just please don't say things like that"

"You know we can't Taeyong" Jaehyun shakily hugged Taeyong as tears started spilling down his cheeks. "I also don't want to let you go. I want to be with you but not this time Taeyong"

"If only we had met sometimes somewhere with a different situation I would have held you tight and never let you go. I would have loved you forever" Jaehyun's voice cracked as his tears dripped onto Taeyong's arms. "But I still love you and I will love you forever"

"If we ever meet again, I'll never let you go. Just not this time, not now, not this life...

Maybe... in another life....."
