Chapter 20.11

New Horizon

Anger, hurt and regret were all that filled The King's heart and soul as he walked up to the black Dodge Viper parked outside, his partner who had stood by silently and watched the entire fiasco following close behind him.

'X! X! Stop walking I'm talking to you!', Devan yelled at Rick as he grabbed his right arm and turned him to face him just as he had opened the driver seat door of the car.

'What A.D! What is it! I'm through! I'm done! I can't do this! I can't handle her anymore!', Rick retaliated before banging his clenched up right fist against the hood of the Viper, holding back the stinging tears.

'I can't....I can't....'

Devan let out a soft sigh before moving his right hand to his partner's back, rubbing his palm against it to calm him down.

'Rick...I know you're hurting...And I know very well you aren't going back in there to Maria...But I can't stand to see you like this...', Devan said softly, pausing as he took in a deep breath.

'I'm gonna go tell her...'

The next instance after those words left his lips, Devan found himself pinned against the side of the car, the enraged eyes of Rick Takeshi burning into his as his hands gripped on tightly to his collar to keep him pinned to the heated metal.

'Don't you dare Devan! Do you think that I wouldn't have already told her if I was that desperate! She made me make that promise and told me to wait!', Rick screamed into Devan's face before talking in a few deep breathes to calm him down, letting Devan go after a few seconds.

'I keep to my word Dev...It hurts to do it but I will. She made that promise with me. Going through all of this is just me trying to stick to it'

Rick looked up at Devan, giving a minute for his words to sink into the male's mind before continuing.

'If she...really wants to be together with me...She'll remember it. She'll remember what I told her.....I know she will', Rick ended his speech with a soft sigh before looking back up at Devan, raising his brow when he saw a smirk on the face of his partner.

'You two are really a real life drama King and Queen you know. I mean this could be some shit that you'd find in a manga or Anime, not in real life man', Devan replied to Rick as he got into the passenger seat of the viper, rolling his eyes to the absurd behavior of the his partner and his self-proclaimed lover.

'Hey....never know A.D. This could all be one big fucking story and we're the sappy characters that are living it out', the joking chuckle that followed his words was enough for Devan to know that Rick had calm down, throwing him the keys to the viper as he got in.

'Ah...You could be right there partner~. Though how right you are...well, even I don't know.'

Rick quickly revved up the engine, which roared to life as it got awoken from its mechanical slumber. As the muscle car moved forward, quickly gaining speed as it rolled out the side gate of the school, Rick attention was drawn back to the impending future that waited him and to why he and Devan were being called back to the states, which eventually led him to probing his partner for answers

'Alright...So what does the General want us to get back for?'

'Why do you thing X?', Devan shot down Rick's question with a question of his own, smirking as his taunting game irritated his friend.

'Dev I ain't in the mood...Just tell me, Rick huffed out as he leaned back slightly in his seat, keeping lazy eyes on the roads he now knew by heart as he drove

'We're gonna regroup and rearm, X....We got a hell of a fight waiting for us...We're gonna need a squad'

His lips curled up into a smirk when he heard these words, his mind already thinking off who would be suitable to fight along him. It took Rick mere seconds to think up of a list of names in his head, a list which consisted of the best of the best.

'Got anyone in mind?', Devan broke the silence with his clear rhetorical question, smiling when a gentle nod in given by the red head.

'Hell yeah....I got a few'
