Chapter 5: Fine Line

Start from the beginning

He didn't know what to say as he just hung his head and mumbled a sorry. It was when the pain temporarily subsided that Taeyong noticed Jaehyun and his position. Jaehyun was standing close behind him, holding his hand under the tap water as his warm breath tickled Taeyong's nape.

Jaehyun slowly pulled himself away as he told Taeyong to sit and went to grab some medications. He came back with a bottle of betadine and band aid and tended Taeyong's wound.

"Does it hurt a lot?" Jaehyun asked Taeyong to divert his attention from the stinging medication.

"It stings a bit" Taeyong winced at the pain.

Jaehyun stuck the band aid and patted Taeyong's back.

"There there"

Taeyong nodded and thanked Jaehyun.

"Also, no more cooking for you. You either sit in the kitchen or wait in the living room. I don't want you to cut yourself again. You can't get your wound wet too"

Taeyong wanted to protest and he was about to but Jaehyun quickly shut him up with one stern look.

"Ok... I'll sit and wait here" Taeyong grumbled.

Jaehyun turned his attention back to the now cold duck and restarted his cooking. Taeyong just fiddled with his band aid as he felt bad for messing things up. He just sat there watching Jaehyun cook as Jaehyun created dishes after dishes. It was when Jaehyun started his dessert that Yuta came downstairs.

"The duck smells lovely" Yuta complimented as he took a piece of the crispy skin. Jaehyun hummed a response, putting his finished dessert into the fridge and started to lay the dishes onto the table.

Taeyong stared at the dishes in front of him as his mouth dropped open. There were like 5 different dishes in front of him. The main dish was the glazing pan seared duck breast with asparagus and red wine reduction sauce. It looked like as if Jaehyun had just run into Gordon Ramsay's restaurant and grabbed those dishes out. There were also the stir fried mushrooms with minced chicken, creamy potato salad, fried shishamo and a hot steamy bowl of rich beef stew.

"Woahh" A gasp of exclamation escaped from Taeyong's mouth as Yuta laughed and pinched his cheeks.

Taeyong sat down in awe as Yuta started digging into his meal. Jaehyun also started munching on the crispy duck and Taeyong just dove into his dish too. He couldn't believe the flavor profile of each dishes as they made him smile in delight. He usually didn't eat that much but to appreciate Jaehyun's cooking, he ate his plate clean and even helped himself to another serving.

"Leave some room for the dessert" Jaehyun chuckled as he brought out three bowls of glossy raspberry mousse.

Taeyong just stared at Jaehyun with stars in his eyes as he melted at Jaehyun's smile. He thanked Jaehyun again and coated his tongue with the smooth mousse. It was just at the right amount of sweetness as Taeyong felt giddy from the meal.

Jaehyun glanced at Taeyong's reaction when he ate the mousse and smiled. He had always found Taeyong adorable. The first time he saw him, he was cuddled up with Yuta on the couch. He thought Taeyong looked like a kitten as he was clinging onto Yuta cutely. Taeyong also had those cute doe eyes as his default look and it always made Jaehyun smile. It was no problem for him to see Taeyong as an endearing person but sometimes, it just crossed a certain line that he set in his mind.

And it would only take a subtle assurance for that line to be crossed.

Jaehyun is a man with morals but there are things that he can't control.

And when he crosses that fine line, he doubts that he can stop himself.
