"So you dated him during your university years?"
"Yes dad" Yuta nodded as nervousness was visible in his eyes. " But I didn't let it interfere my studies."
Mr. Jung turned back towards Taeyong. "Did your parents approve of it?"
Taeyong hesitated at the question but nevertheless, answered it.
"My mum passed away after giving birth to me and my dad umm he's currently living in Japan with his second family."
He felt a lump stuck in his throat as he remembered his downhearted childhood.
"Sorry to hear that"
"No no it's fine" Taeyong shook his head.
The waiter carrying a tray of food arrived as he placed their orders in front of them and refilled their wine glasses.
Taeyong mentally cheered at the sight of his dish with beautiful plating skills. He ate a piece of his tortellini as he noticed something lacking in taste. After swallowing it, he politely asked:
"Mr. Jung, can you please pass me the salt shaker"
"Please" Mr. Jung chuckled as he passed it "Call me Jaehyun instead"
Taeyong nervously smiled and grabbed the salt shaker from Mr. Jung only to feel a tug of resistance when he tried to take it. He looked up to see Mr. Jung holding the tip of it and just letting it go when he noticed it.
"So Taeyong" Mr. Jung spoke as he sliced through his tomahawk steak. "Does Yuta treat you well?"
"Well he's a good man and he makes me happy. I think he's the best boyfriend I could ask for" Taeyong smiled as he turned towards Yuta to see him grinning from ear to ear too.
"That's sweet"
The taste of the wonderful dishes overtook the conversation as the talking halted and dining pursued. Taeyong slowly savored the tortellini and sipped on his rosé wine until he eventually finished it all off. He glanced at Yuta and Mr. Jung's plates as he saw them empty too. Mr. Jung noted it to the waiter as he paid for the meal and they all stood up to leave.
"Dad, Taeyong and I will be walking home for tonight" Yuta mentioned as Jaeyun got onto his car.
"Stay safe then" Mr. Jung glanced at both Taeyong and Yuta as he drove away.
Taeyong let out a deep breath as he felt the tension dissipate in the air. He grabbed Yuta's hand as they started walking home. Both Taeyong and Yuta had created a habit where they would walk back from a nearby restaurant instead of driving home as a form of bonding and relaxing so that's what they decided to do tonight.
"So, how was my dad?" Yuta asked while tracing Taeyong's palm with his pinky finger.
" He's pretty chill. One thing that surprised me was that he looks younger than I thought he would be."
" He actually just turned 40 months ago"
Taeyong gasped as he realized that there was only an age gap of 18 years between him and Mr.Jung.
"Wait so he had you when he was 18!?"
Yuta chuckled at Taeyong's reaction. "Well he told me that he was a teenage dad. Had me when he was in University. As for my mum, she couldn't handle the pressure so my dad volunteered to take care of me and raised me up all by himself"
Taeyong listened in awe as he was impressed by Mr. Jung's perseverance and commitment. Raising a child wasn't an easy task and doing it alone while balancing it with studies and exams was near impossible so Taeyong respected Mr. Jung for that.
"Taeyongie" Yuta asked as he snapped Taeyong out of his thoughts about Mr. Jung.
"Mhmm?"
"Do you wanna hangout tomorrow? I'm still not sure about the place yet but I'll call you beforehand so you could get ready"
Taeyong excitedly nodded "Sure"
They eventually arrived at Yuta's house as Taeyong shyly pecked Yuta's lips as a farewell and tried to avoid his kiss.
"You can't just tease me and leave me like this" Yuta whined and pulled Taeyong back in for a kiss. Taeyong felt his heart flutter at the touch of Yuta's soft lips as he looked into Yuta's heartfelt eyes.
"Love you yongie" Yuta whispered into his ears as he let him go and waved him goodbye.
"Love you too" Taeyong mouthed back.
Taeyong walked back home as the moon luminously shone upon him. It was a tranquil night and the only sound present was the wind and occasional owl hooting. Taeyong wished that he was feeling as calm as his surrounding since he had a shower of thoughts raining down on him. Conflicted feelings battled over each other as he tried his best to suppress his wild thoughts.
It wasn't right.
He shouldn't be thinking about it.
But he can't help it.
