EX Chapter I | Something to Protect

Start from the beginning

The boy spoke out and Himeko looked towards where he was pointing. Sure enough, there was Kiana, quietly making her way towards the training field while occasionally looking around the area, seemingly on alert.

Himeko: That girl...

Himeko then went out from hiding and approaches the silver-haired girl from behind.

Himeko: Kiana!

Kiana: Eek!!!

She jumped in surprise as she was startled by the sudden shout from behind.

Kiana: A-aunt Himeko?!

Himeko: Skipping classes again, are you? And I told you to call me Miss Himeko

Kiana: How did you guys find me? I've covered my tracks

Himeko: That's none of your concern. Now that I've caught you, you're going back

Kiana: B-but-

Himeko: No buts. Your attendance is already the lowest in the whole school

Kiana: O... Okay...

With a defeated sigh, Kiana started to walk back to the main building looking down, her back slightly hunched.

Himeko looked at the silver-haired girl for a while, seemingly thinking of something.

Akiri: Well, I'll be heading back as well-

Himeko: Actually, I changed my mind

Kiana stopped as she heard that.

Kiana: Huh?

Himeko: Come on, follow me. You too, Akiri

Himeko didn't say anything more as she started to walk away. With a confused look still on her face, Kiana hesitantly followed her with Akiri walking next to her equally as confused as to where Himeko is taking them.

(Timeskip)

Kiana: Wow! So many flowers!

The two students followed Himeko until they arrived at a small garden-like area. Various flowers of different kinds and colours are planted around the place, blossoming under the sunlight.

Akiri: And so many different kinds too. Some of these I haven't even seen before

Kiana: Did you plant all of them, miss Himeko?

Himeko: Kind of. An acquaintance of mine seemed to like growing flowers, but she never really taught me anything about taking care of them

She said as Kiana went closer to the colourful flowers.

Himeko: Fortunately, these flowers are pretty tough, they can thrive on their own without me putting too much care on them

Kiana: So pretty...

Himeko: You two are welcome to visit this place anytime. When I slack off-

She cuts herself off with a cough.

Himeko: I mean, when I take a break, I come here occasionally to relax

Kiana: Wow, really?! Thanks a bunch, aunt Himeko!

Akiri: Yeah, thanks. This place really makes me feel calm and peaceful

Himeko: Right?

The teacher smiled as her two students walks around the area some more, taking in the sight.

Himeko: But Kiana, you need to answer a question

Kiana: A question?

Himeko: Kiana, why are you cutting classes?
