Illusions

so i'm trying something different this chapter! instead of being from breliones pov, it's from druigs instead.

it's raining out, heavy and hard like fragments of metal against the ground. i doubt i'll be able to go outside today, unless brelione has a sudden change in heart. i move my legs out from under my blankets, turning to see the small pot that resides at my bedside. it's slightly messy, the first pot she had made when she was learning from a few artists across athens. but she had been so proud of it, so happy that she had gotten it right that i wanted to make sure that it was the first thing she'd notice if she walked in. in its never drying soil is a small plant, it's circular, bright orange with pink powder that has nice color against parchment. she hasn't quite come up for a name for the plant yet, though.

but i'm sure the name will be just as beautiful as she. i want the light to come on, so it does, making my room just bright enough for me to see my robe, dragging it over my arms and fixing my bangs before i leave. but i make sure to keep them just a little messed up because i know that if i do, she'll want to fix them. she'll got on her tiptoes and brush my hair until she thinks it looks just right. and it never hurts to get a little bit of extra attention from her.

breliones door is across mine, the green unearthly stone has been plagued by vines and small flowers, a b is carved into its near center. she leaves a touch of herself wherever she goes, it's glorious. but when i look in the mirror i only see myself, untouched by her graces, unchanged. maybe i'm just too used to myself, moving the door open slowly. her room is unlike any other, jars of water with small plants and organisms lay against her shelves, crystals of all sorts on her bedside table. two of them are new, carved into little animals.

i'd bet half my belongings that makarri and her had teamed up, going on a top secret mission to swipe it from somewhere far, far away. her blanket is bumpy, covering her body as she still holds the blankets to her shoulders, hair messy with sleep. she's extra tired today from the party she attended last night, so tired in fact that she didn't come to explain all the memories she had gained during her night the humans. so tired that rain moistens the soil of the earth, giving people their days off from work and letting the plants thrive under the moisture.

i close the door back up, turning to see sprite with a big grin on his face, staring directly at me. "you're a weirdo."she says, arms crossed. "get a life, sprite."i move past them, off to the main room when brelione appears in front of me. not quite her, though. the eyes are slightly off, and although sprite is smart with her illusions, she always seems to mess brelione up. maybe she does it on purpose, or maybe i can only notice little things. because when i look in her eyes, they are solid green, border of deep blue and tiny little specks. sprites illusions can never get her quite right, or maybe i just pay far too much attention to the little details of her eyes. really, nothing can ever serve her justice. not paintings, not illusions, nothing will ever compare.

the illusion comes close, but it seems to alter her face entirely. my brelione, her eyes are a deeper green, little veins of blue make their eyes to the center, and from her pupils grow this little splotches of bronze. the little bit of bronze goes a long way, adding a deep effect to her eyes, making the rest of her face carry this always lasting look of mischief. it's something so complex that the illusion just can't quite get. oh, druig! i love you so much, we need to get married! it's absurd, brelione would never say that.

i put my hand through her, watching as yellow light covers my wrist. "thought you could do better than this, sprite. she'd never say that." i tell the little evil, continuing my mission to obtain some breakfast.  makkari moves past us, going to breliones room. for what, i'm not sure. i almost want to turn around and see what they're up to, because together they're nothing but trouble. glorious, humorous, wonderful trouble. and just like that, two bodies flash past us, one still in silk pajamas, being dragged by makkari with a smile.

"hey, hey! keep the speed on an indoor level!"phastos shouts, the speed and vibrations make tea splash from his mug. makkari smiles, arm around breliones shoulders. her eyes are tired, blinking slowly as she's not entirely awake yet. but when she sees me-she pauses, like she's trying to determine if i'm real. and when she's sure, her features light up, a small smile pulling at her lips before she looks away. i need a pen. she signs. i move, a little too fast to go find one for her, seeing the silver shine of one and grabbing at it before i hand it to her.

she thanks me, grabbing a napkin as she begins to scribble down her dreams of the night, as she often does when she wakes up. usually it's in her dream journal, a leather bound book that she keeps on her bedside table with a selenite tower resting on top of it. she's let me have the pleasure of reading a few of the particularly interesting ones, the ones that she asks me to see for myself,to go into the creavases of her beautiful mind and study, share the memories with her.

there's something so intimate about sharing dreams, something that nobody else can have besides me. it makes me feel special in a way. once she's written it down, makkari watching over her shoulder, eyebrows furrowing together as she reads it over. even in your wildest dreams i'm still faster than you, she smiles as she signs. brelione laughs quietly, nodding. cant outdo the best, can i?she signs back in response. "brelione, i've been looking for you."says a voice, deep and annoying like metal against metal. sickening, horrendous, grotesque. ikaris.

clearly he hasn't been looking very well, or wisely. she's obviously been asleep in her room, where else would he look? and just like that, the energy in the room is an all time low, with the exception of brelione and sprite who just can't seem to get enough of his presence. "could you stop the rain, it's awfully loud."ikaris says, his hair and body wet from it. oh, how entitled can one be? "the water is good for the plants, ikaris. and it's good for the people to have some time off."ajak says, emerging from the doorway. ikaris' jaw clenches, like he doesn't want an answer from anyone but brelione. ajak is right, and the humans need more water to collect since the river has started to dry up.brelione signs to him, making his features soften. it's annoying to watch, cant he mind his own buisiness instead of invading our spaces?

"i suppose you're right, i can just stay inside for the day."he says. so really, he's started this all for nothing, just looking for an excuse to talk to her. but this day can get better, and it will because brelione adores the rain. and if she's happy, we're all happy.

a/n: yall are crazy! this book is blowing up thanks to all of you. i love you all so much. i have covid which is obviously very upsetting but you're all making me feel better just by interacting with this book.
