Chapter Twenty-Five

Damon's POV

The break had been a lonely one for me, since Sara had ended up going somewhere with her uncle, or so she says, and Tucker was with his girlfriend the entire break. Meanwhile, I had been at home in bed, watching Law and Order on Apple TV. I swear, I never thought I would be tired of being lazy, but I did get tired of it, so I went out every now and then, and eventually I went to meet up with the boss.

I walked into the lonely looking building, my breath white in front of my face. "Don't have a damn heating system?" I muttered to myself. I walked to the back room where everyone usually was and knocked. Manny, the second in command if that's what you'd call him, opened the door.

"Damon," he slurred in a happy tone. "Merry holidays."

I shook my head, pushing past him, into the heated air, muttering, "Who knew you, of all people, were a happy drunk."

I walked through the cigarette-smoke thick air, coughing here and there, as I made my way to the joining room of the boss. I opened the door, revealing the boss sitting in his office chair, cigar in his mouth and gin in his opposite hand.

"Damon," he says, soberly at least. "Long time no see."

"Yeah," I trail off. "I've had things going on I guess you could say, but who cares about me? Have you found that guy yet?"

"Guy?" The boss laughs. "Guy? No, we haven't caught the 'guy' because it's not a guy."

I look at him, eyes wide," It's a girl we're after?"

"Well yes, Damon, that is the only other option," he said taking the cigar out his mouth and taking a gulp of his drink. "Manny and some guys had her at the fights, but the police showed up, so they bailed. We haven't seen her since."

"Oh," I say, still dumbfounded by the fact that we weren't after a man. The way they described her fighting skills made her sound like a man, and they never really specified what the gender of the fighter was, but man. Who knew this girl had the skills to pay the bills?

"Well if that's all you wanted to know, you can leave now," the boss says, waving his free hand towards the door. I gave a curt nod, knowing that doing otherwise would be an equivalent to putting a bullet in my head.

I was currently sitting in the passenger side of the BMW with Keith driving next to me. Today was the first day back at school. I was a little anxious to see Sara again, no matter how much I wanted to deny it, and Keith had been pointing out the little things all morning.

"Oh my gosh, really?" Keith asks beside me. I roll my eyes, waiting for the punchline. "You're going to tap a hole into the floorboard."

"Keith, shut up," I huff, stopping the involuntary tapping.

"That's just awesome though," he says sarcastically. "Who would've thought that my little brother, Damon Monroe, would be into a girl?"

"Obviously not you," I grumbled back. I saw the school entrance approaching I couldn't help but smile in relief. Once the car was stopped, I would bail, no questions asked. After the car finally stopped, opened the door and closed it behind me. I tried to compose myself and walk up to the school as slowly as possible, trying to give off the whole excited vibe. I didn't really want any one to think I was anxious to be at school, I mean, that would be pretty lame.

As I got closer to the school, I noticed that Sara was standing with Olivia, Tucker, and Terrance. Terrance had his arm around Sara's shoulder and Sara was leaning into him, a big smile on her face. I couldn't help but feel a little upset to see them together, but I guess it's not really my place to be against it, since I don't really tell Sara how I actually feel about her. I kind of regret that I promised her that we were just just friends.
