4TH NOVEMBER.
ORION ACADEMY:
APHRODITE AND YUMI'S ROOM.

CAKES. PARTY. CHOCOLATES. Who doesn't love birthdays?

I mean some people do but we are going to pretend that they don't exist.

Cakes. Party. Chocolates. Who doesn't love birthdays? Everyone does. It's that special day where everyone wants you or makes you feel special. Your mom bakes you cake. Your dad buys you something that you've been asking all along. Your friends shower you with wishes. Your favourite aunt brings you your favourite cookie. Your siblings and cousins try not to insult you. And of course, your best friend calls you at midnight or sneaks early in the morning to serenade you.

Much to Aphrodite's dismay, none of that happened.

She woke up with a smile on her face but when she was greeted with nothing but an empty room, her smile quickly faltered away. With a frown on her face, she looked for her phone. She extended her hand to grab it from her nightstand. She pressed the button but the screen remained blank. She punched the button a couple of times but it didn't switch on. She groaned and plugged her phone in for charging.

It was dead.

What a great start! She huffed and leaped into the bathroom, hoping it would calm her. She washed her hair and cleaned herself up. With what had happened this morning, she wasn't in a mood to get dressed up but it was her birthday. She should dress up--look pretty, smile at the wishes and accept the gifts and pretend to like them.

She did a little make-up and let her hair fall down. Thankfully, it was a good hair day. She wore a black full-sleeved dress and black ankle length boots. The hem of her flowy dress brushed against her thigh, making her tickle. She plastered a fake smile and glanced at her reflection in the mirror.

She walked out of the bathroom. Her eyes fell on the small bag kept near the foot of the bed. Josh and Aphrodite were leaving for their house today accompanied by Yumi and Karan only. The other two weren't going to join her birthday party because of their basketball practice. It saddened her when Lex said he and West wouldn't come but she tried her best to hide her aching heart with a soft smile.

Where the hell was everyone?

I know where they are but I'm not supposed to tell you.

Last night, Yumi slept early and Aphrodite waited for someone--anyone to barge into her room and wish her happy birthday. Her mom and dad called her to wish happy birthday at 12. Josh sent a text at 12.04 and her other friends started mentioning her in their Instagram story soon after. But none of the people she expected had wished her.

She was outrageously mad at them.

She checked her phone to see how much it had been charged but it still didn't light up. She checked the plug only to see that the main plug wasn't inserted in the switch board. She clenched her jaw and threw her pillow away in anger. The bed that she had made-up was ruined in the next few minutes. The pillows were thrown off, the covers were crumbled and shoved to the side. She groaned and stomped out of her room.

They must be in the cafeteria. She guessed.

She entered the café only to find that their booth was empty. She chewed the inside of her mouth to refrain herself from crying. She felt a little tap on her shoulder and she spun on her heel only to find Jonah smile at her.

"Hey, it's your birthday, right?" Jonah said. "Happy birthday, Aphrodite!" He put his arms around her when she muttered a small thank you with a low amount of happiness.

"Is everything okay? You seem upset." He pulled apart and asked. She lowered her eyes and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"Yeah. I can't find my friends. They didn't forget my birthday, did they? They aren't even in our usual booth."

"Well," Jonah snickered. "You are a tight group of friends. I'm sure there are more than one usual stop. Maybe look for them where you had the most fun till now. Anyway, I gotta go. Bye!" He said and walked away. Aphrodite furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. She stood alone near the cafeteria door, wondering what the hell he meant.

Where did she have the most fun with them?

Her jaw dropped when the answer flashed in her mind. She gathered up her speed and dashed towards the residential quarters. She knocked on Lex's door but no one answered. Despite that, she opened the door.

"Happy birthday!" The loud voices boomed in unison.

Lex, Yumi, Karan and West stood in a half circle with balloons in their hands. Karan walked up to her with a chocolate cake in his hand. Yumi handed her a knife and instructed her to blow the candles. With a toothy grin on Aphrodite's face and her heart warming up, she blew the candles out with one wish in her mind. She cut the cake while the others serenaded her. Yumi was the first one to charge forward and feed her a piece of cake. She embraced her followed by the others while chewing the delicious cake that melted in her mouth.

"You didn't actually think we would forget your birthday or miss your party, right?" West asked, smiling.

"Wait, what?" She glanced between Lex and West. "Don't you two have practice?"

"How dare you think that practice is more important than your birthday?" Aphrodite smiled at Lex's answer. "Plus, we're getting free cake and champagne so...yeah." Aphrodite giggled and circled her hands around his neck, making sure that her chocolate stained lips didn't brush against his clothes. "Happy birthday," he murmured against her neck.

Aphrodite opened her mouth but was quickly interrupted by someone else. "Hey, hey, hey!" Lex and Aphrodite pulled apart to look in the direction of their voice. "Hands to yourself, pretty boy." Josh eyed Lex's hands that were around her waist.

Lex pulled his hands back and she rolled his eyes at Josh but then he jumped forward and embraced his step sister. "Happy birthday, monster. You're not my baby sister anymore."

Forget what I said about not being insulted by your siblings at the beginning. Guess I was wrong about that part.

"I was mad at you--all of you--for not wishing me at midnight." She looked over at her friends.

"Trust me, I wanted to," Yumi began. "But these guys said that it won't make this moment special."

Aphrodite grinned.

"Oh, sweet little creatures," Aphrodite said. "Every moment spent with you is special."
