"So honey now," I sang.

"How the hell does anyone hit that kind of riff?" Mitch asked, amazed.

I laughed. "What about your high notes, huh?"

"Seriously guys, not the time to be praising each other," Kirstie called from a seat in the auditorium. "You're performing this for Canada in four days. You need to practice."

"Right, right sorry," we both mumbled.

"Not our fault that they gave short notice," Mitch whispered to me before starting at the beginning again.

"When your legs don't work like they used to before

And I can't sweep you off of your feet

Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?

Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?"

I let his voice soothe me as I closed my eyes and recalled yesterday. How I woke up in the morning with him in my arms, feeling closer to him than I ever have before. The sun streamed in from my window and my white sheets draped lazily over our bodies. I ran my hands through his hair and I remember feeling the luckiest that I'd ever had in my whole entire life. We took a shower together. We didn't say a word as I worshipped his body. Washing him carefully because he was all mine. This perfect boy could make me feel in ways I thought were impossible. It was almost scary to feel like I was on top of the world, yet powerless.

We made smoothies and watched Spongebob before taking a nap on the couch. It was the kind of perfection that you never wanted to end.

"Scott? You missed your part," Kirstie said, waking me from my daydreams.

"Oh, yeah sorry." I looked at Mitch who was smiling sweetly at me, almost like he knew exactly what I was thinking about. I stuck my tongue out at him and started singing.

This song was perfect for us, as he is for me.

"I have so many video games that I don't even know the name to, but prepare to lose!" Mitch called as he walked through my door. He always was loud when he entered my apartment, but I still think giving him a key was one of my best decisions.

"And I have the pizza right here!" I called back.

He put the video games in my room and joined me in the kitchen.

"Hey kiddo," he said before kissing me.

"You're never going to believe what happened today."

We sat down and got our slices of pizza.

"I'm scared to know."

"Okay, well me and KK were getting lunch, you know when you had your reports to work on?" He nodded. "Okay well we were almost out of the building when a bunch of people I didn't know were coming up to me. They were all talking about how you were considering moving me up and making me a permanent employee. But they all think it's rigged because we're dating. It was complete chaos."

Mitch nibbled on his pizza and stayed silent.

"No fucking way--Mitch!"

I tackled him to the ground and he began laughing. We rolled over so that he was on top of me.

"Hold your horses! I never confirmed anything!" He yelled.

"You actually being quiet for a few seconds was all the confirmation I needed!"

"Hey! Not nice." He pouted and tried to get up. I held my hands firmly on each side of his waist.

"Tell me the truth. Are you promoting me?"

"I'm sorry, but as your boss, I cannot give you that information."

"But as my amazing, sexy boyfriend..."

"Still can't. Now seriously let me get up, my pizza is getting cold."

I let go of his waist and he jumped up. I couldn't help but smile as I thought of getting a promotion. My own office, new opportunities--

"Get up here," Mitch said, snapping me from my thoughts.

"You can't just tell me if--"

"Drop it!"

I rolled my eyes and laughed as my phone began ringing.

Mitch looked over my shoulder. "Oh my god my favorite person ever!" He snatched the phone from my hand and answered happily.

"Hey Con!" He exclaimed. I couldn't help but laugh. He and my mom were really close and talked all the time, despite never meeting. My mom was absolutely obsessed with him, and sometimes I swear he liked her more than he liked me.

"Christmas?" He asked. "Like--with you guys?" I looked up at him, trying to read his facial expressions. "No, I don't have plans with my family. I'm not sure if Scott would want me to, but I'd love to see you guys!" He laughed. "We'll get back to you, but thank you so much for the invite! Bye girl!"

He hung up and smiled at me. "Your mom just invited me to spend Christmas with you."

"You're going to meet them?"

"Do you want me to?"

"Of course!"

We both weren't that hungry tonight and threw away our pizza before going into my room. We layed on my bed and Mitch cuddled into my side.

"It's a bit of a reality check, you know?"

"What do you mean?"

"I'm going to meet your parents. This is real, what we're going here. You and me. We're really in this together."

I kissed his forehead. "We're going to last, I can feel it."

"We still need to talk about--"

"I know."

He stayed silent for a second before speaking. "But it'll be good for us, don't you think?"

"Definitely. I used to love how we could be silent, but I think I love our ability to communicate more now."

"I love them both."

"Those video games are waiting."

"I'm comfortable."

"Maybe we could take a nap and then wake up and play them."

"Scott, you know for damn sure that we're going to fall asleep and the next time we open our eyes will be tomorrow morning."

"Is that a bet?"

"Yes. You're on."

"Alright, well sweet dreams. I love you."

"Goodnight, I love you too."

"We're just taking a nap."

"Mhm."

A Letter That He'll Never Read

You were right. But another night with you in my arms is fine with me.
