CHAPTER 48 - Watch Over You

Eve's POV

I looked down at myself, seeing the long turquoise dress that clung tightly to my body. I had to admit, it was beautiful, just like all the other clothes Beth had gotten me this past week. Although, even with all this luxury and pampering, I couldn't help but frown, as I shifted uncomfortably in place. I was nervous, extremely so.

I then lifted my head slightly, smelling Beth's scent, who came into the closet a few seconds later, with a pair of black high-heels in her hands. I couldn't help but to smile brightly as I saw her, she was wearing a long strapless red dress, and red high heels. Which only made her body look even more amazing than it already was.

"Something wrong, love?" She asked as soon as she crossed the door, it seemed like she knew me perfectly, it wasn't a surprise that she'd know when I was feeling uncomfortable. Although I still shook my head.

"Just... I don't know, nervous?" I said, but she only smiled, as she walked towards me and hugged me from behind. I closed my eyes momentarily, just basking in her touch.

"And why might that be?" She asked, gently kissing my neck, making me smile lightly, even though I was still slightly afraid.

"I don't know, have you thought about what you are going to say to the Elders?" I asked, hesitantly. I then looked back at her, and saw as her smile slightly faded, although she still made her best to hide it.

"I'll take care of it, okay? You don't need to worry about anything." She stated, hugging me tightly.

I nodded, I knew she wouldn't let anything happen to me, but still, I had no idea how she was going to get out of this one. According to Vampire law, I should have been dead already. Which, in her defence, I was for a little while.

She then shook her head, as if trying to think about something else, and handed me the heels she had in her hands. I took them carefully, quickly putting them on. I knew that there was nothing I could do to stall further, so I just breathed in deeply, before taking her hand and following her out of our room.

She guided me towards the dining hall, that was apparently already packed. I could hear voices, and smell the food, as well as the countless scents of the people that were there. Almost all of them were laughing and talking casually. It seemed that, if there was one thing immortals really liked, that thing was a party.

I looked around, seeing the crowded room, and smiling at the fact that there were actually a lot of familiar faces, some, of course, more than others. I smiled brightly as I saw my second favourite redhead running happily towards me.

"Eve! I haven't seen you in forever! How are you?" She asked, hugging me tightly as soon as she reached me, before turning towards Beth, and hugging her as well. I smiled at her, it was, unfortunately, true, I hadn't really seen her around that much lately, and I did miss her company.

"I'm good. What about you little Dryad?" I asked, although as soon as the words left my lips, she frowned.

"What? No way, don't you call me little! Finally I have someone in this mansion that's younger than me, don't you start." She warned, although I did catch the somewhat playful tone in her voice, I had to hold myself not to laugh.

I knew that most of the inner circle, Beth and Sophia especially, still treated Sam like a little kid, and she absolutely hated it. And having someone that much younger than her, giving her the same treatment, pissed her off. But then again, I could understand her side of it, she was, in fact, almost seventy years old.

"Yeah, right. Keep thinking that." I said playfully, with a smirk, only to have her point her tongue at me, like a five-year-old. I just laughed, hugging her again, as she muttered a low 'you suck.'
