CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

The wind flowing through each strand of her white fur, rippling a liberating feeling deep within, she knew where she belonged. At one with her pack members and family, she ran to fight for them and for the freedom that she so desperately wanted. It was cold throughout the forest, but she felt warm right down to her bones. If a normal human stood out here, they’d most likely freeze, teeth chattering and all. Maybe even catch hypothermia.

They were catching up with the rogues. She could hear their foot prints, paws tapping against the snow covered ground, crunching and shuffling. Her heart thumped against her chest, the adrenaline pumping. It was a very exciting and nerve-wracking experience; and the same feeling that she felt while being chased by those killers, just no excitement.

Nova ran beside her father, in front of her, leading them. She rolled her eyes at his protectiveness, but deep down she was happy. They just made up from their fight, and she would do anything to stop arguing with him. Maybe even listen to him a bit more… No way! But she’d try to think positive and love him unconditionally. Possibly get over his faults; over-protectiveness, anger management, and possessiveness. Even though he had those imperfections, she ignored them and looked at his inner beauty. He was beautiful on the inside and out. A very kind man, he would give up his life for his pack and even her. She respected him more because of it.

Numerous scents hit her suddenly and were unknown to her, so it must be rogues. She grunted to Nova and he did the same. His black wolf stopped abruptly and so did her father’s brown one. She turned to look at her mother’s white wolf.

*What’s happening now? There are rogue here, I can smell it.*

*I’m not sure Santana. Pay attention, don’t let your guard down and remember what we taught you.*

She nodded and continued to wait for Nova’s order. They stood for about ten minutes, until his head perked up. He growled, shifting in his spot, backing up a bit. His ears went back, telling everyone that a threat was coming. They all felt it. Her father did the same.

*Keep your guard up everyone!* he commanded through the mind link.

Santana’s fur rippled as she sensed the threat getting closer, her ears pulled back and mouth curved up showing sharp canine teeth. Nova backed closer in front of her, making sure he would be close to protect his mate. She was glad, as she wanted to be near him to do the same.

All of a sudden, twelve wolves ran at them from up ahead, teeth flashing and snarling. Santana felt her heart tighten. This was going to be her first real fight, and damn was she excited. Her alpha blood rippling through her veins, she prepared to attack.

The wolves crowded around them, the only sounds were the vicious noises echoing throughout the forest. All the other wild life stopped their activities and escaped.

One, who looked to be the leader walked forward. His chest popped out, showing strength and agility. He was a huge grey wolf and most likely had alpha blood in him. Nova growled as the other wolf looked at Santana with…lust, admiration? She couldn’t tell. His blue eyes sparkled, and his tongue licked his lips. If she were in human form, her face would probably be cherry red from the look he gave her. Why her when there were other females around?

The grey wolf’s paw stepped out and Nova crouched in defence mode. It seemed to be enjoying Nova’s distraught stance when looking at her. She didn’t like that at all, as it made Nova uncomfortable. So she walked in between her mate and father. The rogue wolf seemed to be pleased by this.

*Well, just had to get a closer look now, didn’t you?* a husky voice popped into her head.

She looked up to see the grey wolf staring at her. Growling she showed him her teeth.

All he did was howl, which actually sounded like a laugh. She stared at him like he was crazy.

Nova pushed her to the side by nipping at her neck, she whimpered at the contact. Backing away she knew she had to listen for the pack’s safety. But unfortunately, it only made the alpha rogue angry. He stomped his paw on the ground, challenging her mate. Nova looked back at her then rogue. He nodded and walked ahead.

*Nova!* she yelled. He didn’t listen.

The alpha rogue looked pissed off. They stared at each other, and bowed. In a few seconds, he jumped on Nova’s back. Dodging the attack, Nova bit at the rogue’s leg. It yelped but kicked out of his mouth. Without even trying to recover, the grey wolf pounced on Nova’s neck. It bit down hard, the blood soaking its fur. Flipping over, Nova jumped away then went at him again.

The fight went on for about ten minutes. It was getting annoying. She was scared at first, but it was like they were playing. None of the other rogues even bothered to do anything but sit. They looked calm, whilst her pack growled any time Nova’s blood was shed.

Without thinking, she walked closer to the fight and growled loudly. It boomed around them. They stopped and looked at her.

*Who the hell are you guy’s and what do you want with our pack?* she seethed.

*Well baby girl, you can call me Crafter, because I’m good with my hands,* his wolf winked at her.

*Seriously who are you? And what do you want? My brother was attacked by one of your members.*

*I’m Lawson Gage. To get to the point of why we’re here is simple. One of your pack members killed my friend’s mate and hurt her in the process.*

*What? None of them would do that unless there was a good reason!*

He growled.

Nova looked at her angrily *what did he say?*

*He said that one of the pack members killed someone he knows,* she cut it down shortly.

Nova looked over at Lawson. *Who?*

*She said he was a grey wolf, with dark brown eyes. Following him, she found out where he lived. I wouldn’t have bothered, because I don’t really care. But I owe her a favour.*

Santana had a bad feeling about this…
