Chapter 71

Shower with Love

"And you're completely positive that this is what you want to do?" Audrey asked. Seth and Mira had made their announcement minutes ago and their parents had dragged them out of the room of stunned people to talk to them. The teens nodded their heads.

"Yeah it is, mom," Mira said.

"We were up all night talking about it," Seth said. "We can both finish school if Mira takes the job at the community center. They have health care and daycare, so we can leave Sunshine there during the day."

"And Matt is moving out, so we can turn that room into a nursery," Mira added.

The adults stood there stunned. Just twelve hours ago, Mira had been a crying, scared mess. But now she stood a proud, strong woman who was ready to have a baby.

Mira looked at her parents with pleading eyes, "I know that you never wanted me to give the baby up, so I know that this is the right thing to do. Jamie said that it's not about facts or statistics; you know in your heart what the right thing to do is. And I know this is the right thing."

Audrey felt tears coming into her eyes. Her daughter stood there, so determined and regal, it made her proud to be her mother.

"What do you two think about this?" Adam asked Carolyn and Dave.

Carolyn opened her mouth to give her opinion when she realized something. "It's not our decision. Whatever they choose, we will be completely behind them." Dave looked surprised, but nodded his head in agreement.

Seth and Mira looked at the Pascal parents, silently waiting for their answer.

Audrey and Adam were silent for a moment. Then Audrey stepped forward with her arms out and embraced both teens.

"Of course you can keep the baby," she whispered.

Matt showed all the guests out the door while the adults and the teens were talking. Everyone was gone except Sara, Paige, and Ava. Zack and Zeke were waiting in the car, seeing as Paige was their ride.

When Mira walked into the room to see her three closest friends, squeals were heard throughout the entire house. Paige and Sara threw their arms around their pregnant friend while Ava stood behind awkwardly. The black haired girl wasn't sure if Mira was mad at her for keeping a secret from her.

But Mira looked over Paige and Sara's shoulders and extended an arm towards her. And while Ava wasn't a hugging type, this seemed like a good time to do it. The four girls stood in a group hug for a minute before breaking away.

"Miri, I can't believe you're keeping the baby!" Paige exclaimed while bouncing up and down. Mira grinned in response and nodded her head.

"You know you're not gonna be by yourself," Sara said, "If you ever need a babysitter, I am so there."

"Me too," Paige said.

"And me," Ava couldn't help adding. Mira's eyes welled up and she nodded again.

"I know," she said, voice thick with emotions, "I love you guys."

"We love you too!" Paige said, hugging Mira's shoulders tightly. Sara jumped up and down clapping her hands.

"OOH, we HAVE to throw you a baby shower!" she said excitedly.

"Oh, you guys don't have to..."

"No, that's a great idea!" Paige said, "We can have it at my house. I'll invite a bunch of girls and have games!"
