The furious sound of the doorbell pulled me from dreamland. The room around me was dark and when I stumbled to turn the switch on, I noticed I was still in the clothes I wore when I came to the beach with James today. I must have fallen asleep. The doorbell rang again so I ran downstairs to answer it. My parents were out of town and won't be back until tomorrow afternoon. I opened our front door and there stood Abby and Josh.

"Oh, hey!" I said, my voice still thick from sleep.

"Where have you been?" Abby's hands were on her hips and she was raising an eyebrow. A sign she's mad.

"W-what?"

"I asked where on earth have you been? You didn't come to all your classes. You didn't answer your phone either. And it took you forever to open the freaking door. So where have you been?" My best friend is in rage.

Josh calmly placed a hand on her shoulder. "Abby, I think we should go inside first."

She exhaled loudly and went inside as I followed her, Josh behind me.

"Sit." She ordered when we were at the living room. I obediently sat down. She turned to Josh. "You too."

"What?" Josh stared at her like she was insane.

"Sit down, Josh Michael Davis!" Josh immediately sat down beside me.

"As for you, Megan Elinor Fields, where did you go that you did not tell me, your best friend? And don't tell me you went home because I sneaked out of school at lunch to see if you were here and you weren't! I was so worried! I called you a thousand times! Could you not even send me a single text to at least tell me you're still alive?" Abby was mad and I'm scared of her when she is so all I did was just stare at her with my mouth open.

"Uhm...."

"Okay, mom..." Josh said sarcastically. I almost wanted to punch him for mocking Abby when she was already mad, if only he did not reach out and covered my hands with his own. "Stop freaking out, Abby. You sound like mom. Why don't you go grab some cold drink while I talk to Megan for a while. Because clearly, you're also freaking her out."

Abby sighed heavily. "Fine." She headed towards the kitchen making me sigh in relief. "Thanks."

"Now don't assume that you can get out of this. Because I'm still asking you the same thing. Where have you been, Megan?" Josh looked sincerely worried that I almost wanted to tell him the truth. But I don't think I can do that. And I don't know either why I would lie.
