Demi's POV

The doctors said that they had found the cancer so late that they could do absolutely nothing.
The word spread pretty quickly on social media.
Now even when I tried to take the kids to school I would have to take bodyguards.
It was horrible.
Wilmer sat in the living room watch if TV. He would have soup in a flask and a sandwich lying around nearby.
He was so ill, yet none of us noticed before.
I caught Hazel and Carly talking in their bedroom.
"What's Cancer?" Carly asked.
"It's an illness." Hazel replied.
"Is it serious?" Carly asked.
"Yes," Hazel nodded.
I interupted.
I walked into the room and picked both of them up.
We sat on Hazel's bed in a hug.
"Wilmer is going on holiday." I lied.
"Why?" Carly asked.
"His parents live in Australia so he's going back there." I lied.
"Can't we go to?" Hazel asked.
"We can't afford it." I lied.
"Oww." Hazel and Carly moaned.

***

It happened in the middle of the night.
Wilmer began throwing up violently.
I held his hand whilst I drowned in my own tears.
My Mum came around to babysit whilst I drove Wilmer to hospital.
"Wilmer, time to go!" I shouted.
"Wilmer?" I called after he didn't respond.
I ran upstairs.
He was in Caleb's bedroom.
He was hugging Caleb whilst tears ran down his face.
I walked over and hugged them both.
"Demi, please take care of him." He wept.
"I will, I promise." I managed to reply.
Wilmer kissed all my other kids asleep then we both went and began to drive.

"Demi??" He whispered.
"Yes." I wept.
"I love you so so so much." He cried.
We arrived at the hospital.
They rushed Wilmer to a room and have him some oxygen.
That's when I knew.
Wilmer wasn't going to be around tomorrow.
There were about five nurses and doctors in the room.
I sat on the bed holding Wilmer's hand.
"It hurts so much Demi." He cried.
"I know, I know." I whispered.
He brought his hand up to my face.
"I love you, Demi, take care of our son." He said.
Tears streamed down my face.
The doctors stopped what they were doing and bowed their heads.

The room was silent.
After only being with Wilmer for a while, he was gone.
Gone.
That's when I lost it.
