The students returned to Hogwarts from their Spring Break by the end of April.

Albus offered to Remus to stay home for longer to grieve as it had been less than five days since the poor boy lost his mother.

Remus declined. It would be better for him to be around his friends rather than grieving alone.

Lyall wasn't alone. The Potter parents visited him daily along with friends from work. So Remus didn't have to worry about that.

The Full Moon came faster than expected. Remus knew this would be a bad one. His skin had been crawling for three days now.

"He doesn't want us there?" Sirius asked.

Edith had pulled her Marauders aside as Remus slept in the dorm.

"It'll be just Goldeye and Moony tomorrow. I know you don't want to be left out... we just worry what Moony's going to do. He may be a wolf, but he's grieving too. He needs his mate there to comfort him. You all can stay outside the shack. I just don't want him to lash out at you.." Edith explained.

Each of the boys looked worried. But eventually, they understood. Remus would never be able to forgive himself if he seriously injured any of them.

And Edith was right, Moony needed to grieve. And seeing anyone other than his mate would likely anger him more.

Remus technically wanted no one there. He was worried he'd hurt the boys. But also worried Moony would go off the rails and try to mark Edith in an attempt not to lose her.

Moony had no pack. But marking Edith would give him some kind of connection. He feels as if he has none, now that Hope is gone.

Edith helped Remus to the shack. She transformed into Goldeye just before he started to transition.

It always hurts her to see him in pain. His bones cracked and reshaped as he tore through himself.

But once Moony was out, she could tell he was sad. Goldeye slowly came up to Moony, leaning in to nuzzle his head.

He wasn't violent today. No, he couldn't be. He wouldn't hurt his mate. As much as he needed to claw and tear at something... he wouldn't hurt the lion in front of him.

Instead, the two just played around the shack. She'd jump around and he'd follow her to at least get some of his energies out.

By the end of the moon, Moony did need to claw at something. So he inevitably clawed at himself, leaving Remus with a few new scars.

Once Remus was himself, Edith transformed back and helped him redress.

She signaled for the boys, who stayed outside just as they promised. They each filed in.
