george watched as the clock ticked over to midnight.

the brit had officially been living there for a month.

he deserves a big swig of wine for that.

drinking on a thursday, classy.

it's not like he wasn't enjoying his time there- he had grown to like the area, the people were nice, and he'd met everyone, but he couldn't help but feel alienated.

it was like they all had a set way of working, they functioned like a family.

a family he wasn't part of.

which made sense- wilbur had told him that everyone else in the building had been living there for at least two years, sapnap being the most recent edition.

two years is a long time, it's no wonder they are all so close- some more than others of course but that's besides the point.

plus it didn't help that they all kept telling george about the girl who used to live in his apartment and how amazing she was.

it was just casual conversation, of course, no malicious intent.

still. george couldn't help but feel like he was competing against someone he never met.

sure, from what he has heard cara was lovely, but does he really need to hear about her constantly?

wilbur was the person he seemed to interact with the most over the month, the pair had gone for coffee together a few times and had shared a lift into the town- wil offering since he was going out that way anyway.

dream and sapnap he'd had a few quick conversations with in the hall. plus there was the night when the blond had stayed around.

george and bad had seen each other briefly, but that was only because the rent was due.

he spoke to the pink-haired boy in the café- whose name he can't remember for the life of him-  and discovered that he, wilbur, and tommy were brothers, which he would never have guessed.

but besides those few occasions, he had only spoken to people when he was introducing himself.

which, by the brunette's usual standards, would be plenty for having only lived there for a month- but it just feels strange when everyone else in the building seems to talk to each other practically daily.

he doesn't like feeling like an outsider.

after chugging the last few mouthfuls of his wine he decided to sleep, knowing he was only overthinking because he was tired and undeniably drunk.

george was awoken by a knock on his door.

he rolled over, coming face to face with the empty wine bottle on his bedside cabinet, shaking his head disappointedly to himself.
