Brendon was sitting next to his dad waiting for Drew to be ready for school. It was the first day back from winter break and let's just neither boy wanted to go back. So Drew was taking his sweet time getting ready.
" Ready to go back baby?" Niall asks.
" No. I would rather die." Brendon says.
" Now that's not cool. Try to make it a good day though, okay?" Niall says.
" I can't promise anything." Brendon says. Liam walks down the stairs with a big smile on his face.
" Good news Payne family. Lani is coming over this weekend." Liam says. He walks over to Niall and pecks his lips.
" That is good news. We haven't seen her for a while." Niall says. Brendon looks at his parents with a questioning look.
" Since we have a sister coming, and since Lani doesn't visit us often, is Lani gonna have to give up her room?" Brendon asks. The parents look at each other. They really didn't think about it. The parents look back at Brendon.
" Probably." They both says. Drew walks out of the bathroom. He looks at Brendon.
" Lets go." Drew says. He walks to the garage door, leaving Brendon behind. Brendon and the parents look at each other with confused looks.
" Did he just speak to you?" Liam asks.
" He hasn't spoken to me in weeks." Brendon says.
" Brendon! Now!" Drew yells. Brendon scrambles to stand up and grabbed his backpack. He slipped on his shoes and ran into the garage. Brendon went for the back seat. He got in and Drew pulled out of the driveway.
" Are you gonna pick up Sage?" Brendon asks. Drew starts driving to the Tomlinson neighborhood.
" If I wasn't, I wouldn't be driving to her house." Drew says. Brendon quietly sat back in his seat. At least Drew was talking to him.
An awkward silence fills the car. And Brendon didn't like it.
" So, did you hear Lani is coming over the weekend?" Brendon asks.
" I did. That's gonna be exciting because I miss her." Drew says. He pulls into the Tomlinson driveway and Sage comes running out. She runs to the back and opens the car. She slides in next to Brendon.
" Hi boys." Sage says. Drew looks at her with a pout.
" You're not gonna sit next to me?" Drew pouts.
" Maybe another time hun. I wanna sit next to Brendon." Sage says. Drew continues to pout as he pulled out of the driveway and down the street and to school. Brendon could feel himself cringe. It was gonna take a while for him to get used to his best friend dating his brother.
" So, anything new Brendon?" Sage asks.
" Nope. No wait! Our dads picked out a name for our sister!" Brendon says. Sage smiles a small smile. Drew already told her what the name was, but she didn't want to bring down Brendon's energy.
" What is it?" Sage asks.
" Melody Kate." Brendon says," Isn't that so pretty?"
" Yeah, it's really pretty." Sage says. The trio eventually gets to school. Drew parks the car and the three get out. Sage stands in the middle while the Payne brothers stand on each side of her. Drew slides his hand in hers as they walk into school.
" If anyone gives you shit about us, tell me about it and I'll shut them up." Drew says. Sage quickly kisses his cheek. Brendon tried to hold his gag back.
" I'll be fine DJ. I'm a big girl." Sage says. The three walk in and walk to Brendon's and Sage's table. They sit down. Sage and Drew were in their own world. Brendon felt like a third wheel.
If this was what his relationship with Sage is gonna be from now on, Brendon wasn't going to like it.
Drew's friends come up to the table.
" Holy shit dude, is this the girl you're dating? She's hot!" Caden says. Drew gives him a dirty look. Even Brendon have him a dirty look.
" Dude, don't say that about her." Drew says. His friends sit down next to Drew.
" We're just glad we finally get to meet her. I'm Lukas." Lukas says.
" Hi Lukas." Sage says.
" Yeah and the other dumb shit is Caden." Drew says.
" Nice to meet you both." Sage says. Then the four started to have their own conversation, excluding Brendon. Brendon rolled his eyes and played on his phone. He heard someone walk up to him, but ignored them because it was probably someone for Drew.
" You look like you could use some company." A person says to Brendon. He looks up and smiles when he sees Matt.
" Hi Matt." Brendon says.
Matt mentions towards the seat next to Brendon," Is this taken?"
" Nope. Go ahead and sit there." Brendon says. Matt sits down and smiles at Brendon.
" So what's with best friend ignoring you?" Matt asks, mentioning towards Sage and Drew.
" She's with her boyfriend." Brendon says.
" But he's your brother?" Matt says.
" Don't even get me started." Brendon says. Matt lets out a laugh.
" Alright. How was your break?" Matt asks.
Brendon shrugs his shoulders," It went okay. I certainly don't want to be back."
" Not even to see me?" Matt pouts. Brendon lets out a little giggle and pushes his shoulder.
" You're probably the only positive thing to come with school." Brendon says.
" Good. Because I was dreading to come back too. But you make it bearable." Matt says. Brendon tried to hide his blush. Man, did he love hanging out with Matt. He wishes he could hang out with him out of school.
" Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to come to a party with me this weekend. I would love to hang out with you outside of school and I think this party would help." Matt says. It's like he read Brendon's mind.
Brendon was about to answer when Drew cuts him off. Drew may be talking with Sage and his friends, but he was paying attention to the man flirting with his brother. He let one boy hurt him, he's not having another one hurt him.
" Can I ask who the fuck you are?" Drew pops into the conversation. Sage slaps his arm. But Drew just shrugs it off.
" I'm Matt. A friend of Brendon." Matt says.
" He's not going to that party with you. Hell, he's not going to any party." Drew says.
" DJ, don't control me." Brendon mumbles.
" I just want to hang out with Brendon. There's no harm in that." Matt says.
" He can't hang out with you because our sister is coming over." Drew says.
" Oh my god, is this the hot sister?" Caden asks. Drew shoots him another dirty look.
" Once again, I want to hang out with Brendon. I don't care where it is." Matt says. Before Drew could sneak another word in, the first bell of the day rings. Brendon quickly grabs Matt and runs away and yelling goodbye to Sage in the process. Brendon led them somewhere near their classrooms.
" Sorry about my brother. Ever since the whole Ryan situation he's been extra cautious about me." Brendon apologizes.
" Nah, I don't blame him. Ryan seemed like a real dickhead." Matt says.
" But I would love to go to that party with you." Brendon says. Matt smiles. He quickly kisses Brendon's cheek.
" Cool. Let me give you my snap and we can talk more about it." Matt says. He grabs Brendon's phone and opens Snapchat. He types his username in and adds himself.
" I'll see ya later Bren." Matt says, walking off towards his class.
" Bye Matt." Brendon says. He walks off to his class and sits down in his spot. He couldn't contain his smiles.
Matt makes him so happy. Even if Matt did just want to be friends.
