Serah POV

"So she was a woman"

These were the last words I muttered before taking my leave.

...

The sound of my heels clattering on the ancient balcony tiles was followed by the gentle friction of my gown on it.

Silence took over when I stopped to look upon the starry night.

Who was she? This woman...
They seemed close, too close.

I even heard it, I now know that he used to have feelings for her. Was she another of his exes?

I wind caressed my gown and my thoughts.

Did I really need that?
I was tired from the talk earlier with Garett.

How did he notice, no one knew, no one was supposed to.

...

Earlier:

I saw Jay scurry off with Theo leaving me alone, that person might be really special.

Max was it.

I didn't have the time to dwell on my thoughts that Jess came in running and bumped into me.
If it wasn't for my reflexes, the champagne would be decorating the floor right now.

The drink now secure in my hand, I turned my head to show her my most hypocritical smile.

"What was that for?"

I didn't know how words escaped my mouth as my teeth were glued together to maintain my smile.

"So sorry, but hurry up let's eat!!"

She didn't regret her actions as she, not so delicately, dragged me to our table.

I could never be angry at that girl.

Arrived there I was placed next to Jess and Jay. The Alpha and the beta family were all here, completing the table, except for my mate, he was still catching up with his friend.

I sat down with Jess who didn't waste her time to dig into the food.
However, the whole situation made me uneasy.

I had been eating sandwiches since I was here and it wasn't for nothing. It was because a certain someone tortured me with a fork. And everything had its repercussions.
I really want to get away from this place.
The clatter of the cutlery was making me sick.
I was about to faint from all these thoughts and memories.

When I was to enter a panic attack a voice distracted me from the mascarade going on in my head.

"Serah!? Do you mind coming with me to retrieve our alpha?"

Garett the previous alpha asked out of the blue.
Without a second thought, I got up not bothered to answer.
When I was next to him, he gently put his arms around my shoulders as if he wanted to protect me.

I looked at him with eyes that couldn't hide the fear I felt that day.

And he knew, well the next word confirmed my thoughts.

"How could you have hidden for so long?"

These simple words broke all the walls I built since that day.

"How did you?"

I didn't have the strength to finish my question, though it wasn't needed. And I still had to stop the stray tears from ruining my makeup.

"Serah, I've been alpha a long time and torture takes a toll on your sanity. I was worried about you but you never showed a sign.
Now I see, it was the fork and everything that goes with cutlery."

We were still in a hall, an empty hall.
I felt safe talking to this man and no one was around.

"And flies too... I already hated them anyway."

He looked at me tenderly and we started walking again.

"Did you tell-"

I knew what he was asking and no, I didn't tell anyone.

"No, no one and it's better this way. I'll do my best to get over it."

Actually, the conversation boosted me up. It felt like I had someone on my side that managed to stay neutral.

"I'm sure, you can but you need to talk to Jay about it. If we have a family dinner or even a meeting.
You can't avoid it forever."

What he said made sense. Hiding it wasn't the best idea but where do I start.

"That's true!"

My excitement was transmitted through my words and reflected by the warmth of his eyes.

We started exiting as we were both in a better mood, with no talk about torture or anything gruesome.

As got next to the exiting stairs I heard:

"You know that I had a crush on you when we were younger right!"

And I recognized it right away this voice.

The voice of my mate talking to an other woman.

...

I didn't want to think about her.
Max, his crush right?

And here I was thinking about him these past few days and that guy...

I sighed, not wanting to admit it.

Because that guy was surely thinking about seeing her again, after so long.

I felt like a fool.

I hosted a guy in my heart and nightmares so he could invade my whole essence.

My fault I guess.

I didn't deserve to have all my attention. No, he didn't. That was why my gaze took me to the night sky of Red Crescent.

Another pair of heels got me out of my daze.
Curious I thought it would be Jess but to my surprise, it was Dina in all her glory.

I immediately turned around not wanting to see her but she had other plans.

"Serah?"

Her voice was no longer innocent, it screamed mistrust or disgust, I didn't know for sure.

Reluctantly, I turned back up to face the vixen.
It was weird seeing her dressed up.
Her gown was short and revealing.
She didn't have much curves but the whole attire boosted her attractiveness.

"If you're here, I guess he's with her."

The smirk didn't go unnoticed. This girl was doing her best to make me lose it but I won't let her play with me.

"As you know, actually I am worried. Yesterday night he was wide awake screaming my name and now he's with someone else. It's getting on my nerve."

I would pay if I could see her expression again.
She was shocked to the core.
Seeing her crumbling to the ground was quite funny but who knew I would crumble too.

Dina, instinctively, turned around to greet her alpha.

However, his eyes were planted on mine. We both knew what I said.

I was literally fucked.

Jay saw Dina and she ran away from the set.

Now it was him and me.

As he got closer my heart beat faster.
I didn't if it was because of the embarrassment or his muscles flexing in his shirt every step he took.

"So, last night I screamed your name?"

He was so close that I felt the heat he emanated on my skin.

"Who said I was talking about you?"

A low growl answered my tease. He got closer and put his lips on my neck.
If he told me that he wanted to take me right now and there, I'd submit.

His lips descended to my cleavage making the situation more dangerous than it could have been.

My hands lodged themselves in his hair.

"Jayson, you can either fuck me right now or get away from me?"

Sentences were self-made, my brain was often off when he was around.
Honestly, it was exactly what I wanted. Him fucking me, it had been days that I waited for fir this.

And to my surprise, he got off of me.

To my expression, he smirked that bastard.

"I came here to tell you that the hunt will start soon."

I was flustered, so embarrassing. He placed his tie correctly and looked me right in the eyes.

"Next time, I won't hold back, I can promise you that."
