Here I am on the edge again.
A slip from the enticing feeling of the cold.
All it took was a step forward.
Yet I fell.
I close my eyes.
Waiting for the impact,
The rush of cold water to hit my back,
The shortness of breath to take me under,
And hopelessness as I sink further into it all.
In the midst of it,
I open my eyes.
And I breathe.
The water fills my lungs,
I begin to suffocate,
No one is there.
Nothing is there.
Just me.
But.
I'm not suffocating.
I'm breathing.
I open my eyes again.
And I'm standing on edge.
The beckoning water behind me,
And the world in front of me.
I take a breath, and feel everything.
The warm air beating gently against me,
The fullness of my lungs as I breathe,
The hope for strength in walking forward.
But see,
Hoping, isn't doing.
So I walked forward.
